Some AMAZING palm trees!

These guys offer some of the most realistic looking palm trees-

I've ever seen.

Their website is still under construction, but you can see the

examples here:

I believe they're available ready to plant, and as a kit.

Wet ballast color

I'm currently building a layout and about ready to balast the track.  The layout is based on a Oregon short line (Port of Tilamook bay / SP Tilamook Branch) and I have been thinking about having the ballast look wet from after a rain.

I believe they used granite ballast, how much darker should it be if its wet?

Any brands/colors to start with?

Fascia Flats, what are they and how would one use them?

In another thread discussing a shelf yard, Byron Henderson mentions using Fascia Flats.  This is a new term to me and I wondered if anyone, including Byron could elaborate on the subject?

I assume they must be near 2D representations of 3D buildings near the edge of the layout but I can't visulize how that would work.  Any enlightening information would be appreciated and some pictures, (if possible) showing how it looks on a layout would be great!

Colors for a coaling tower

I am building a concrete coaling tower for a guy that models UP in the era of Challengers and Big Boys.  Thanks to a previous thread, the concrete part is looking ok.  My question is what color to paint all the metal brackets, pulleys, braces, etc.  I don't think they would be all rusty and derelict but not new either.  Did UP have a standard paint scheme for such things?  I am leaning towards black as I think it was fairly cheap, after all it was Mr. Ford's color of choice.  I know UP also painted lots of stuff silver, bridges, water towers, etc.

Resurrecting The Dinosaurs

Resurrecting the Dinosaurs is a program I started about a year and a half ago, when I had a really nice hard drive camera, since then I have have had to use a lesser camera, but I am managing to get things going again, little by little.

In this series of videos, I bring a poorly built Atlas roundhouse back to life, and make it a little more Life Like, (pun intended), this is how I manage to take pre-built buildings, which were poorly put together kits, and make them acceptable for just about any model railroad.

After A Long Delay

And a few other things that needed to be done first, I'm finally working on the first buildings of my scrap/auto junkyard, I'm using an old Chooch casting for the auto part of the junk yard, will also add to that with some old Jordan stuff I have laying around, this Chooch casting also includes a small office.

The main building that will be on the property will be the Tucker Bros. Machine Shop, which is a metal Woodland Scenics kit I had picked up years ago with the idea of producing an O scale version of, since I still have this kit on hand, I figure, why not?

1" card board lattice terrain

Greetings,

I am planning to use this technique for my current layout.  I have worked with wire screen and paper towel and I have use the paper pillows on a solid table top.

The track work and wiring is not completed yet but I decided to try a sample section of this technique in an area that is finished.  The sample is under 3 sq ft.  The ends were stapled in place so I can tear it out if i decide to redo it.  If I keep it I can glue is down with hot glue.  The shell is two layers of WS plaster cloth.

Material for furnace filter trees

I need to make some pine trees and would like to make some furnace filter trees. The only loose furance filter material at Home Depot was a large sheet of what looked like a kind of blue sponge material. Is this the right stuff? I  watched  Joe Fugates second scenery DVD video which  showed the material already cut and teased apart, so I was not sure what it looked like "on the shelf". Likewise, most of the print articles I have on the subject dont show it in its unaltered state..

Thanks,

Chris

Airbrushung Backdrops

 Hey.

I got a couple of series on youtube you may want to check out if you're thinking about taking a crack at airbrushing. They'll either convince you to move forward or scare you away completely...8-D

Anyway the first set of videos consists of my experiments working out my technique(such as it is) on a test backdrop.
