Weathering Structures

I was reading the instructions that came with the craftsman kits I received from FOS Scale Models and found that I have a few things to acquire before I can build the kits.

One of the recommended supplies is weathering powders or chalks.

Building Mockup Material

Hi all-

I'm looking to start putting some building mock ups in place on my layout this weekend and wanted any suggestions on materials to use.  Ideally I'd like to keep the amount of interior bracing I have to do to a minimum so my thinking was that I would pick up some foamboard (the posterboard, not the insulation) or gator board but I'm open to any suggestions.

Thanks!

Model Tech Studios Kits

I am curious if anyone has any comments on this line of kits, specifically O scale.  Do they go together well, are the instuctions good and most important-are they worth the rather highish asking price for a non-wood kit?

Thanks,

Peter

Other Uses For Negative Ion Generator

What are negative ion generators actually used for in the "real" world?  Rather than trying to get one from Australia, maybe I could get one from another piece of equipment that I could find locally.  Likely would cost less as well.

Ho Scale vehicles

Recently i have been adding to my collection various types of automobiles, pickup trucks, semi trucks, trailers, etc.

How-ever considering the actual price you pay for a peticular product vs it's actual material worth(I hope i explained that right?)

Tree update

I posted some pics of conifers I made about a month and a half ago using Joe's technique from his scenery clinic and the bonus footage with Pete Vassler at the end of DVD 5.  I've been practicing quite a bit and did some experimenting to try to take 'em to the n

Modeling scenes in a fog

Has anyone modeled a scene in the fog?

I model the DM&IR, and a portion of the layout is the tracks down the hill into Duluth, MN and out onto the ore docks in the Duluth harbor.  Anyone who visits Duluth with any frequency will encounter the weird weather changes brought on by the hill and the cold waters of Lake Superior.  It can be 80 degrees and sunny on top (Proctor ore yards, for instance), and in the fifties, foggy, wet and dreary in Duluth proper.

Tinting Envirotex

Scenic Express sells dyes for tinting envirotex and when the time comes to put water on a layout I'll happily order some, but is there anything else that can be used to tint envirotex with good results?  I only ask becasue I'd like to try some things with water on the diorama I built without having to buy the dye today.
