Scenery and structures

Got an idea last night....
Hi all,
still dealing with that P.T.S.S. and making appointments for my soon to be installed solar panels, the Willamette Valley Sub is going solar power by the end of this trimester, lol. I wasn't happy about one part of the layout.

Black Canyon RR
Came across this layout and love the detailed buildings and action. Video:

Balast
Hi folks,
I am looking for ballast for my layout. It is a model of the C&O in the New River gorge in the mid 40's
As far as I know the C&O used limestone and I think it was on top of cinders.
I have seen some nice real stone ballast on a layout and when asked was informed it was from Smith and Son's and was limestone grey #50, however this is no longer sold by Scenic Express, and it appears that Smith and Son's has no info on the net.

SPF, sunday photo fun...2/19/2012
Hi all,
hope you don't mind and by all means, just join in and post some pictures of your projects of the week-end....
On my side I've been reworking the concrete ramp's lighting. I didn't like the look of the original ones and so scratch build some other flood lights...much better and giving me a peace of mind now, lol
So I replaced these...

Need part number for HO Scale, Walthers Double Track Truss Bridge Kit #933-3012
I am missing the instructions for this kit so I have no clue what the part number is. But in figuring out how this kit goes together, it is clearly missing the top beam that goes across the top at the one end of the bridge. I was hoping someone could look up to tell me what the part number is so I can find a replacement for it.
Thanks!

Mek Substitute?
So went to my least favorite big box store today with the intention of finally buying that can of MEK for gluing my plastic structures. Well, they didn't have any of it there. All they had was this stuff:

Looking for O Scale Scratchbuilding materials for bridges...
I'm discovering modeling in O Scale is going to be more of a challenge than I first thought! (I am beginning to be very glad I am modeling in HO Scale for my own layout!) I am trying to plan ahead as we begin the redesign/reconfiguration of the layout in terms of what is available in terms of structures, especially bridges.
UNFORTUNATELY, Central Valley and Micro Engineering do not make bridges or bridge parts for O Scale! UGH. We would like to have several different type of bridges.
The list of bridges we would like to build are:

Small cost, great effect...
Hi all,
today I've been working on a small cost project.
BLair Line Ho scale Treated Pile O' Ties. (LLC #2811)
To be on the safe side, first thing I did was spraying them with dull coat, since they needed some weathering and dry brushing.
PRR interlocking tower colors
I am loosely using the PRR as my freelance layout. I just bought a Tichy interlocking tower and was wondering if anyone could tell me what color the PRR used on their towers??( That is if they used a standardized color throughout the system.)
I was thinking about just using tuscon green but I need to find some of that color. Does anyone know who makes that color??

Less than Class I Ballast idea
I've been having pretty good luck using various colors of sanded grout (has more body than unsanded) Spread it with a brush, spray it with wet/water (a little soap added). When dry, use a Que-tip shaft cut at an angle to run along the web of the rail and a brush to get it off the tie tops. When it is all clean hit it with some hairspray to totally fix it. Run a rag on the end of your finger with a tiny bit of acetone to clean the top of the rail. Done! Also works great on wet plaster or paint-sort of like zip texture with a twist.
