Helium Operations

I have had some interest expressed in my Helium operations.  So I thought I would share a snap of my Helium reduction refinery and much modified old AHM Helium car.  For those who are in the Santa Fe Railway Historical group may have seen my article on modeling the AHM cars in the 4th Q 2014 issue of the WARBONNET

The refinery is pure imagination but is based on the "feeling" of the Excel Helium plant at Keyes, Oklahoma.

Decals for roads

I am wondering if there are any decals for roads, for example everything what is painted on the streets in front of a grade crossing, or some lines and stripes in white and yellow, arrows, and so on. Any ideas?

Interesting picture I took in the Smokies......

My family and I visited the great Smoky Mountains this past few days and I always take pictures when I go. This trip coincided with my daughters spring break from school which came kind of early this year.  It's interesting to me to see all the barren deciduous trees here with just smatterings of green provided by what I assume are  conifer/evergreens . Won't be long till this scene is the "sea of green" that so many try to emulate with puffballs.

Has anyone tried to model ferns that might be part of a logging scene?

Has anyone attempted to model these in large numbers as might be found in a heavily wooded area in a damp climate (e.g. a rainforest-type of setting)?  I'd like to consider including something like this in a logging scene but to purchase what few models I've seen that are commercially available would be prohibitive.  I'm wondering if anyone has tried making them using a Cricut or laser cutter.

Concrete traffic barriers

I wonder since when the nowadays typical concrete traffic barriers are in use? They are often seen near the tracks to hinder vehicles from blocking anything.

Cricut Explore Cutter

After reviewing the Trainmasters TV episodes on using the Cricut Explore cutter to cut out thing like structures and a locomotive cab, I am very interested.  Has anyone got some good experience using this machine?  It appears to hook up to a PC with either a USB cable or a wireless Bluetooth adapter.  The rest is not real clear.

Tichy Milepost Markers

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has these on their layout? If so are they readily readable from say 3 feet?

I am looking for a way to mark turnouts so that operators can identify turnouts by number and easily locate the correct toggle switch.

Ballasting by the Book or by the Prototype?

When reading about ballasting, I see a lot of

On prototype trackage, you will rarely see ballast on top of the ties.

Changing color of Woodland Scenics foam?

Has anyone successfully changed the color of WS coarse turf? I'm talking changes in tint not a wholesale change. If so, how was it done?

Thanks for any help

Smaller evergreens and such....trunk diameter vs. height?

I was looking at this old thread model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/2376 which is  full of great info on larger trees  but I need to ask  a  question on shorter trees. I've been making some 6 to 8 inch tall bottle brush style HO scale "pine or evergreen"  trees I use in the background on my layout. That equals out  to about 43 to 58 feet tall in HO scale so  obviously  these are not very tall in comparison to the ones discussed in that thread.
