Walthers Proto 2000 GP60 and SD45 non sound decoder

Hi all

Does anyone have a non sound decoder recommendation for the current Walthers Proto 2000 GP60 and SD45?

I do have an older GP60 and IIRC it wasn't a simple install so I am wondering if the current run has the same wiring.

Detection Section Help (For Signaling)

I am hoping a more experienced person will be willing to look at my track plan.  I am setting up detection sections which will be used for signaling in the future. I'm not sure if this is correct/accurate when it comes to the sections near the switches.  I wast to be sure before I cut any gaps.  I am not sure if I have too many/not enough or if the sections breaks are to close or far away from the switches. I want to limit my detection sections to 32.  I am using AnyRail.

ESU LokProgrammer Problem

Recently I've been installing LokSound decoders in my engine fleet. To program those decoders I have the ESU LokProgrammer which I really like, and am running the latest updates to the software.

SOLDERING POWER LEADS TO N-SCALE TRACK

I am in the last stages of planning my 10' X 10' N-scale layout.  I trying to anticipate issues that could impact the fine tuning of my layout plan.

One issue is soldering the power leads to my track.  I am planning on using Atlas Code 55 track.  I am also planning on using a wiring bus to connect all the leads that I attach to the track.  I expect to attach leads no farther apart than 3 feet.

21-pin decoders

I've decided that the 21pin NMRA decoder standard has a major problem.

Which side is up?

When I can do this (I realized my error before putting it on the tracks), there really is a problem here:

Why did someone think it was a good idea to put the holes all the way through the connector/socket?

Analog ammeter for DCC

Hi,

I'd like to use analogue meters on my panel to display the current draw from a booster.  Does anyone have experience doing this?  How inaccurate would it be to use a plain AC ammeter on DCC?   Would I have to resort to a current monitor?   Are there stock circuits around I could just use, or maybe PC boards available for this application?  Seems like someone would have done this by now.

Thanks,

Bill

Attaching Feeders??

I’m going to be wiring a small shelf layout for dcc.  When it comes to attaching the feeder wires from the bus power to the track I was thinking about soldering the wire under the rail connectors as opposed to soldering the wire to the side of the track.

I’m wondering is there a trade off in doing it this way or Vice versa?  Please advice

thanks guy

DCC Test Track Wiring Question.

I have a question for those with more DCC and electrical/electronic experience then I have.

I have a NCE powercab that I would like to connect to my program track on my modelbench.

Also I have the NCE USB interface I would like to use so that I can download and use JMRI for programming.

And also I would like to set up the Soundtraxx PTB-100 .

Switches made with fast Tracks jigs

I have been working on building switches with the Fast Tracks jigs. I have the jigs for the left and right #6 and the wye #6.

I have learned a few things after making a few dozen switches:

1. Polish the circuit board tie with a few passes of a file, it should be shinny. Cut the gap before you put the tie in the jig. I cut both the top and bottom, I have had a short where some solder had dripped down and made a connection with the bottom foil. Very hard to find.

Blue LED Christmas Lights For Night Lighting...

This may not be the correct forum... but here goes...

I'm kicking around the idea of using blue LED Christmas tree lights for night lighting. I'm looking at these lights:

Have any of you done something similar? If so, are you pleased with the outcome? What lights did you use and how did you do it?

Also:

* Can string lights such as these be shortened via wire cutters and tape?
