Track and electrical/DCC

My friend struck again !!!!

So,

This buddy of mine, who I am helping become a model railroader, bought a Walther's Mainline SD70Ace with DCC and sound. Of course, it won't go around his 18" radius curves... Ahem... I knew that and told him to ask me before he buys anymore locomotives.

We are here now, so is there a solution?

Digitrax Problem

I am experiencing a Digitrax problem that I cannot figure out. After two years of redoing my layout, I finally have all my switch machines installed and wired and power to the track. Everything works great when I use the throttle on my Zephyr. The problem that I am having is my UR90 and UR91 are not recognizing signals from my DT402R or UT4R throttles. If I teather them into the panel plug they will recognize my command. The batteries are reading 9.5 volts. I have reset theZephr back to factory settings. I have reprogrammed the two engines that I am using.

Easy steam locomotive wipers.........

......can be made using printed circuit board to replicate the bars (don’t know exactly what they are called) that hold the axle and journals in their pockets on the frame. If you look at the attached photos it should be apparent what they are and how to make them. I cut slits in the top of the board to insulate the center area from the frame prior to soldering the phosphor-bronze wire (.015) to that area. On this model with the large wheels I opted to use two wipers per wheel. On models with smaller wheels I use a single wiper trying to make it as long as possible.

Unknown Decoder

I bought a locomotive on eBay.  When it arrived it looked like it had a decoder in it.  I put it on my programming track and it wouldn't read.

I have been installing decoders and servicing DCC systems for over 20 years.

Never seen one of these.

Anyone have any idea what it is?

Thanks

Ernie

Can you recommend a 21 pin decoder?

I'm looking to add a decoder to an HO Rapido GMD-1.  It has a 21 pin socket for adding a decoder.  Ideally, I would prefer to install a sound decoder, but right now, just cannot justify $100+ for the decoder.  So I plan to add a non-sound decoder, at least for the time being.  I've found 3 that are similar in price.

Digitrax DH166MT
NCE D16MTC
ESU Lokpilot

All can be found in the approx $20 range.

Wire for signalling

Hi Guys

Just wondering what brand of wires you use for your electronic work such as signalling?  I bought some wire but find that after a while, it breaks off at the solder joint and is a real pain to solder back on to the device.  Is there good quality wire for modellers?

MRC Prodigy Express

Somewhere between Connecticut and Texas, I lost the flat cable which attaches the handheld cab unit to the base unit of my MRC DCC controller. It's an old Prodigy Express, but when last powered up it worked great, so I'm not anxious to toss it out.  I have been unable to find an MRC dealer who can help me.  Any ideas of where to get a cable, or can someone tell me the configuration for the flat cable so I can buy one, or get one made. Really appreciate any assistance.

Micro Engineering track, where to buy

I need a BUNCH. Of HO track and rail and spikes and such finish my existing layout. Both  code 83 and code 70.  And I am looking for a location to buy them.

so far I have either encountered places that have a very limited amount available (I need about 18-20 bundles) or they charge a fortune for shipping or the are asking full retail.

So where is everyone buying track from?

And while we are at it where to get Atlas code 100 and what is a good price on that?

Thanks for any advice.

Should I solder feeder wires to my Atlas Code 80 turnouts?

I am getting ready to solder my feeder wires to my Atlas Code 80 track on my N-scale layout.

Does anyone have any advice on where to place the feeder wires on a Code 80 turnout?  Do I solder the feeder wires to both ends of the turnout, or only one?

Thanks.
