Track and electrical/DCC
Static shocks
On our club layout at times we get a lot of static shocks from touching the track the UP5 when plugging in the controller even off eachother. Not sure what the problem is, could it be our digitrax system , our flooring (interlocking rubber matting) which we have run wires to a good earth. All to no availe. Last Sunday we had our bimonthly operating session when you kept hearing loud cracks and someone going yow! I am looking for ideas on what we could do to try to stop it.
Thanks in advance Neil

Help getting an Atlas SD-24 w/DCC to move!
Atlas SD-24 Gold.
I was running it in a consist and wanted to try turning the sound off. Somehow, I messed something up and I don't know what.
The engine responds to it's road number, sound comes up with the throttle, light turns on, but the engine will not move.
I'm wondering if there's a way to reset the decoder, or if there's something else I should check.
Appreciate some suggestions on some things to do to isolate the problem.
Thanks
Deane

Another tie/rail color question
I'm building fast-tracks style turnouts on their "QuickSticks" turnout ties. I don't have a layout space, I'm just building up a supply of switches for later use. I was thinking I would get a rattle can and put on a single coat of paint now as a base coat.
First question, is that a reasonable thing to do? Second question is color - somewhere on here I read something that said start with a light colored coat first and later apply darker colors to bring out texture, or was it the other way around?
lighting question on nce dasr decoder
ok so i got a handful of 3v surface mount led in the mail the other day. I have a bunch of locos with the nce dasr decoder in them. my question is with pads 3,4,5. Are they set up to wire in a 3 volt led or do they need a resistor in it? If they need a resistor what size resistor do I need to not blow out these leds. I only have a minamum amount of these little leds and dont want to fry them right out of the bag. Any help is greatly appreciated

Uses for decoder functions
Hey there. I'm currently adding a DCC decoder to an athearn GP38. I'm using a 4-function decoder (because that's what I have laying around). I've connected the front and rear headlight and it seems a waste to not put the other two functions to use.
Thoughts I'm pondering: Cab lighting. Illuminated the number boards (both front and back). Ditchlights-I would need to add the castings, but that could be done.
What do people use additional functions for? This is a non-sound decoder.
Rail tie color
Hi
Does anyone have a tip for rail tie colors, Brown, gray, black, as well as what you may use, stain or paint, I'm thinking a oil base stain would work however messy, My plan is to use the tie"s for a deck on a bridge and the bridge itself will be rusted and weathered up, I like the idea of black however maybe a gray would be more fitting .

Decoder for Con-Cor HO scale Galloping Goose
I just got a HO scale Con-Cor Galloping Goose (DC) and I'm interested in installing a DCC decoder and possibly sound as well. I'm a novice so I don't have any idea on the best and/or most economical decoder. Plus how realistic is it for someone with no experience to attempt the installation? Any advice out there?

My ideal HO scale non-sound decoder
I want a really small (we're talking EMD Model 40 size) decoder with a small stay alive, either integrated or plug in (soldering on a device where a blob will wipe it out is a no-go).
It will have at least 4 lighting functions (front/back 2 optional) with the standard configurations.
It will have a working brake function. Extra credit if the brakes are configurable to work with ESU, TCS, and T2 brakes.
That's pretty much it.
