Track and electrical/DCC
Athearn DCC Ready - Lighting Wiring Inquiry
Hi - I have two DCC questions (Both pretty much the same). Note I am using a plug-in SoundTraxx decoder for both applications.
bonding rail to wood ties
I recently read on one of the post that the old way to bond rail to wooden ties was with Pliobond. As I have just finished building 6 turnout using Fast Track jig, I was planning on using Pliobond. Is there a better product?
thanks...Ken

Micro Engineering turnouts
I am gathering supplies to start on my first layout and was wanting to use ME track, as it looks much better IMO than any of the others I've seen. However, I was having a hard time finding code 83 #6 RH so I did a Google search and came across an old thread from the forum here talking about QC issues with them.
Has anyone bought any turnouts from them recently and can tell me if they have sorted those issues out? I would appreciate any current insight that is available. Thanks!
Nate

DCC Wiring up a Diamond Scale Turntable
What is the most simply manner to wire up Diamond Scale turntable for DCC train operations. The turntable itself will NOT be indexing, nor powered in its turning,...just simple manual rotation?
I suppose one power lead still needs to come in thru the tower on the bridge, while the other comes thru the circular track in the pit? And I assume this circular track does NOT have to be segmented as there are dual contact wheels at both ends of the bridge?
Installing Tortoise on the top of the benchwork?
Hi everyone,
I am about to make some revisions on my trackplan and this involves having a couple of turnouts leading to spurs/sidings off the mainline, placed on areas where installation of the tortoises is not possible below the benchwork. Is there a preferred/recommended way of installing the tortoises on the top? I can figure out scenic ways to disguise the motors themselves using structures.
grain of wheat bulb with DCC decoder
I am planning to put a NCE D13W decoder in an old PFM light mike that has a grain of wheat bulb as a headlight. The info with the decoder indicates that the max for the light outputs is 100ma and that the GOW bulb have an in-rush current of 8 times that value. The bulb draws 80ma when lighted. Would a 22 or 33 ohm 1/2 watt resistor in series with the bulb limit the in-rush current as thus save the decoder? I prefer LEDs for lights, but it would not be an easy task to put in a LED in this engine for the headlight.
Reversing loop and 3 way switch
I am putting reversing loops into my layout. I will be adding digital AR 1 reverses in to change polarity. I know the loops have to be isolated but what about more feeders within the same loop. I was thinking a separate bus with feeders for increased reliability because my loops are pretty big.
Automated crossing gates for layout?
Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good crossing gate system or source of plans to build one that could be used on my S scale layout. It likely would be designed for HO scale and need to be modified for S scale but perhaps an O scale version could be reduced in size? I'd like flashers/bell and operating gates and some kind of detection circuit to operate them ( I have DCC control on the rails) .
DIY airbrush and compressor......
It's more of novelty but it was it was still interesting to watch

How much can an Arduino based DCC++ system handle?
My new layout will be larger than my old one. (238 sq.ft vs 176 sq.ft.)
Last time I wired my turnout machines to toggles and used control panels on the valance with a separate power supply. This time the Valance is only 5" high in the small room and 9.5" in the large room.
My DCC system is powered by a Raspberry Pi running JMRI connected to an Arduino powered DCC++ base station.
