Walthers Layout Control System -- Switch Machine Horizontal Mount
I am not sure if this is failing to plan or planning for failure ..
I am using the Walthers Layout Control Systems switch motors that arrived yesterday. I looked them over..built the system to test out how they worked and put them back in the box. However something didn't seem right

analog Signaling circuit
i'm helping someone build their layout and the owner is less-tech savy. I think the following circuit is a possible solution, no processor and no digital electronics, voltage polarity controls two signal aspect. KISS

guard rails at diamonds / crossings
Gang,
I know this is probably highly dependent on era and railroad preference, but when dealing with two or more diamonds, how are the guard rails normally done? Here is my "kitbash" on two Atlas 30 degree crossings. As you can see, the guard rails are extended between the two diamonds. Does this look prototypical ?

Looking for home made DCC electrical block breaker
MHR forum is a great source for electronics help and advice and for DCC
Some of us are really great teacher to help and to share some easy circuits which are extremely helpful, easy to build and affordable by the most of us.
I assume not all of us are electronic technician, so the way it works need to be simple and affordable for the most of us.
With the help of these great teacher, big step in electronic where shared on the MHR forums, like easy to build detector, Arduino application, servo use.
Custom made turnouts
Good evening,
I have been searching online and found just a couple of websites that offer HO scale custom built turnouts. I have emailed both with no response but I am giving them time. I purchased a couple of custom built turnouts via an ebay seller but that was many moons ago. Meanwhile while I am waiting on response I am looking to see if there is someone in our group who can make custom built #8 or #10 turnouts using Code 70 rail.
Thanks

Decoder Inquiry - SoundTraxx vs. ESU
Hi – New here but have been an "unregistered" reader for a while. I tried to find a search function before posting but I didn’t see one specifically for the forums.
Want to know people’s experience and or recommendations with mobile decoders for locomotives. (I’ve always had someone take care of my electronics since its never really been my thing. I’ve decided to take this on myself when they told me they won’t work with LEDs.)

Keep Alive = Speed Matching Troubles?
I’ve run into a mindboggling issue with Speed Matching and I’m wondering if keep-alive circuits could be at fault. The problem is simply that a few of my speed-matched locos need a warm-up period before they reach their fastest speed at any speed step. Until then they run as much as 10% slower.

Why does voltage across DC motor jump higher?
Voltage from the power supply measured 12V. When I connected to a can motor, the voltage jumped to 17V. Why? Is this the back EMF?
I have a simple DC power supply, it rectifies the AC and delivers DC like this:
The multimeter measures the approximate voltage (RMS, root mean squared if you recall high school. I had to look it up)
plug in decoder problem
Hello, I have been installing decoders for customers here in Illinois for more than 10 years, but I recently came upon a bad issue.
Customer had Proto 1000 Subway car with an 8 pin DCC plug on the lighting board. I removed the factory jumper plug and installed an NCE 8 pin plug in decoder (N14SRP). Had this decoder on hand and was new.
Programmed on program track, using Decoder Pro, put on main line and in about 10 seconds 1 of the diodes for the bridge rectifier burned up big time.

DCC decoder controlled coupler
This probably has been covered before ...
but, anyway, these are pager motors, affixed to a Kadee HO coupler by CA, and operated by a small string to the base of the air line on the coupler ..
You need an extra available function output to make these work, or two if you want both front and rear.. They draw UNDER one hundred milliamp, and as such are driven from the function output directly, no other electronics needed.
The pager motors are available on ebay, and can come from several different vendors ..
