Track and electrical/DCC
PSX Question
I turned my layout on tonight and one section of power district 1 did not have power to the rails. First step look for some thing shorting the track, tools etc. Then remove locos and check for derailments. None of that helped. So i took a close look at the PSX and noticed that D12 is on, but both D6 and D7 are not lit. Normally D7 is on if no short and D6 is on if there is a short in the track. I have 8 PSX boards with two as spares. When i first set up the system one of the boards had no output at J2 so one of the spares was used, so i know that the boards can fail.
Model Masters Painting Rail
Entering the track painting phase and using Model Master acrylic colors as Poly Scale is no more.
Brush painting the rails, noticed this stuff has the consistency of water and does not adhere very well. In fact it takes an additional cote or two after the initial application dries.
Has anyone had a different experience with painting rail with Model Master acrylic or recommends a better acrylic brand?
”Can the rail be primed with anything that would allow the paint to adhere better?”

i do not get it?
looking under the hood of a athearn U50. rtr.
there is two chip boards. and neither of them is a dcc decoder?
why have this set up in a dc only ready to run unit. as it sits only one motor and one front light.
then to dcc must plug in the dcc decoder. heck athearn only went with grey wires for pick up ( four
wires each end and 2 each side) from the trucks. so they failed on the dcc color coding up front.
or is all this junked to do a dcc conversion?

DCC for beginners...what will a basic setup cost?
Hi peeps...
Hope your all alive and well...I have been home sick most of this month which has lead me back to inside activities including my dormant layout room...
I have a small shelf layout with track layed on one section which is operated with a small Pace DC controller powered by 2.5A 15v AC transformer off an old calculator. This all runs fine at the moment but have noticed that my style of Model rail power is becoming outdated watching every single tube install on the web these days move in digital.
Scaletrains and class lights
Anyone have info on how ScaleTrains controls the cycling of the class lights?
I understand it's a loksound function but is it one function cycling a tri color LED?
I have 20 odd Athearn RTR tunnel motors I really now want to add class lights to but I'm guessing i won't be able to get the Red/Green/White cycle without using a loksound/lokpilot and their LED?

How Many Tools Can You Count?
I'm installing switches, track and ground throws in Angela's Landing. I keep getting out more tools. It's amazing how many we accumulate. How many can you count in the photo below?

Walthers Grade Crossing Signal Controller
Anyone know of one that operates on DCC operated layouts?

NCE Cab06r vs Procab-R?
Hi all,
I am looking to add wireless functionality to my NCE Power Cab DCC Starter System. (not interested in using an iPhone as a cab or run through a PC with JMRI etc., just NCE hardware).
Based on this https://ncedcc.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201621389-Step-2-Option-B-Wireless-operation?mobile_site=true
an RB02 and a wireless cab is the plan.
DCC specialties PSX-AR goes to dead short, not auto-reverse
Installed PSX-AR auto reverser a couple years ago on a wye, and has operated flawlessly since. We purchased another PSX-AR recently to install on a second wye. We are using an NCE Power Pro 5 amp dcc system.
Understanding PECO turnouts
I am having a lot of trouble understanding some of the terminology regarding PECO turnouts and the words "power routing". I have installed Insulfrogs. When you throw the turnout, that track is powered. The other is not.
