Track and electrical/DCC

Simple question

One thing I don't remember being discussed, but is not very important. Certainly not to me.
The DCS50 and many other command stations all do a simple loco number change. You put the loco on the programming track; in "PAGE" or "dir" mode and you click "LOCO", and again or such until you get Ad4/usually. You then enter your 4 digit loco number/usually. You then click "LOCO" again. And you are basically done.

Atlas Genset & ESU Loksound

Hi from the UK,

Upfront declaration: I am a DCC sound novice.

I recently bought a Atlas Genset. I believe it's one of their earlier releases. It's the CSX #1302 (Atlas Ref 10 001 195). Ive been looking at adding DCC & sound to it. I've found information about using the Soundtraxx TSU-PNP decoder and their speaker, however, after reading Joe Fugate's editorial about decoder standardisation, I'd like to find a ESU Loksound solution as the only other loco I've got is the Rapido B36-7 which came with a Loksound decoder.

Keep-A-Live on turntable bridge

My turntable has an occasional dead spot causing Loco  sound to drop and restart. Not an issue with Keep-A-Live equipped locos however not all will have them. So my thoughts are to add a Keep-A-Live to the bridge rails.  The issue is Keep-A-Lives are DC and the buss is not. I feel  a Diode on each conductor in the opposing direction would make it work, any thoughts?

Tsunami 1 vs Tsunami 2 decoders

So what are the opinions, virtues, etc of the first Tsunami verses the Tsunami 2 sound decoders.

I've been offered a deal on the #1's from a gentleman who likes to replace the older ones with the number 2's.

If I am not a real 'rivet counter' about sounds, what else do I lose??

Data Locations for LokProgrammer 5

I have installed the LokProgrammer 5 software on my Windows 10 PC.  I established the locations of the Project and Template data files (which can be user determined) without any problem.

With the older LokProgrammer 4 software, in addition to those data files, the software also created folders in at least two other locations that I've discovered:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ESU\LokProgrammer4\Autosave

C:\Users\username\Documents\LokProgrammer4

MARs lights with DCC

A question came up about what sort of bulb/LED & or modification was required to make our MARS lighted locos operate on DCC?

Never really thought about this, but are you saying that all those locos that we have with 'stock factory MARS lights' don't operated with DCC installed??

On another note, how about these flashing lights on a trackmobile??

Shinohara/NKP Turnout Re-build

I have several code 100 NKP branded turnouts in my staging yards that are giving trouble in reliably feeding current to the closure rails and points.  I have also fed the V crossings (frogs in US talk) via tortoise contacts but as I am using DCC I found I had to cut the closure rails to separate the points, some years later I am getting unreliable current to the points.

Any rebuild suggestions around?  I have vague recollections of an article somewhere for an "in position rebuild".

TCS Keep Alive Install

Have a new Athearn Genesis GP-7 with factory installed Tsunami-2 sound decoder and looking at installing a TCS KA2 keep alive.

Besides connecting the two KA2 wires to the correct solder pads, do any changes need to be made to the decoder? (Cutting a wire, making a change in the CV settings, etc..)

Yard turnout control

So I have been pondering Turnout control in my 2 yards.  To use Tortoise control or D.P.D.P switch's (frog Polarity)  for manual control.  I have been going back and forth with this for several years up until recently decided to use tortoise's everywhere.  Now I am questioning it again.   I need 114 of them with 60 being in the 2 yards.  So there are pros and cons to both methods and am curious what you folks do and why. Thanks in advance.
