Sound Modules

Not knowing to much what is available in sound modules I have a question. Is there a product out there in sound modules for non-DCC type engines? In other words if I had just a DC control system is there something available that would equal the sound modules available for DCC?

Cleaning rails

Hey guys,

What kind of cleaning material do you use? What experiences do you have? I use an rubbing alcohol and CMX cleaning car. I wonder if there is any good or better alternative.

Thanks,

Jure, Slovenia

Hard Wiring Cab Bus

I hope this does not sound too ridiculous.

Lately I've been having some issues with my cab buss and some loose connections at the RJ connectors.  The terminals on the board themselves seem to be a little sloppy and causing the cab buss to fail, i.e. throttle no workie.

I've seen it done on the club layout where the cab buss has been hard wired to the UTP panel board.  I've been meaning to ask the membership how this is done (where to solder the wires) however, I thought I throw this out here too.

Could a Blue Tooth application be an answer?

In following the SoundTraxx thread, I am curious if the next paradigm for delivering high quality (with inherent low frequency fidelity) locomotive sound to the ears is an application of Bluetooth delivered via a smart phone app and ear buds? I do not have any idea of how expensive the technology is per se, but I am presuming incorporating it into a DCC decoder would not be beyond current technological parameters. The app should be a piece of cake, if even needed.

Do i use "cheap" sound decoders or not?

Folks,

I grew up watching multiple C30-7s and SD40-2s lashed up struggling to make the grade with a heavy train. How do I replicate this with multiple sound decoders?

DCC to DC districts (running both DCC and DC)

Good Day Team,

A bit of my current layout.

20x50  garage (3 Car garage)

3 Level layout having 1.5% grades to reach each level.

5 DCC district (5 Yards)

10 DC Districts (used to operate long distance consists)

2 Main lines running between destinations (multiple sidings)

About 80% of my engines run on DC. (hence the large amount of DC districts)  The last 20% are fully DCC with some sound.

When desiged my layout, I wanted following achieved.

Painting Turnouts

Fellow MRH Readers,

I make all my turnouts using Fasttracks turnout jigs. Instead of gluing the ties to the bottom of the rails however as FastTracks suggests, I glue my turnout ties to a sheet of paper. That lets me place my ties on the cork roadbed, then locate the completed switch over the ties, which is held down then with Walthers code 83 spikes through the ties. This system works great. The turnouts are somewhat free floating, and removable if I need to replace or repair them later on.
