Track and electrical/DCC

Idea - enhancing smart phone and DCC integration
Let's hope this doesn't degenerate into a flame war, or a battle of the trolls (hmm... roasted troll....). I have an idea, and I thought I'd start a new thread to separate it from other related topics. Specifically, the idea came to me while reading about Rob Teed's work with DCC uncouplers and his search for a smartphone app to control them.
Why is polarity important for DCC?
Why is polarity important for DCC?
This is a fundamental electrical question regarding DCC. I have started educating myself and I know if I just follow prescribed wiring rules, everything will be fine. So, this is a question of understanding, rather than one of practical importance. There is a lot of vague information and unabashed misinformation about the electrical characteristics of DCC and it's a rare article that presents clear facts.
Here's what I think I know, so please correct me, if I'm wrong:

Digitrax sound decoders
I use Lenz DCC. I have one HO scale diesel loco fitted with a Digitrax SDN 144 PS N scale sound decoder. This loco slows noticeably when the horn is sounded. I have two questions. 1. Has any one else noticed this using SDN 144 Ps decoders? 2. Has any one had a HO scale loco slow while sounding the horn using the Digitrax SDH 164 D decoder?

Control Panels
I've been sketching out my future control panels for the layout. Despite the layout using DCC controls, I still like having small control panels at busy areas to show the track arrangement, and for the toggles and indicators for the switch motors.
Atlas n scale code 55 Question
Hi all
Just a question from a beginner: on the Atlas website there is a description for the underfloor turnout control that says "N Scale Code 55 Under Table Swicth Machines includes a double-pole, double-throw relay with actuating mechanism." What does that mean at what does it?

Tortoise Switch Machines, Replacing Power Pack with DC Power Plug
Replacing my power pack with a simple DC power plug to power my tortoise switch machines. (Each is connected to a central DC power bus)
Is this just a straight forward connection to my DC power bus, (either soldier or terminal strip), or is any special wiring and/or additional accessories needed?
Thanks,
Joe
Dgitrax sound bug
I have a HO Proto2000 BL2 that I fitted with a Digitrax decoder and soundbug, and loaded the GP10 file from the digitrax site. My problem is that it simply doesn't sound any good so am looking for an alternative sound file but have had no success so does anyone have any suggestions?

Testing individual feeders?
So today I started working on the feeders for my under layout staging. This is my first time soldering feeders to track, so each set of feeders is more practice. I drilled holes trackside since it will be hidden staging and so visible wires aren't an issue. With each feeder I think I get a little bit better at it, though a couple of the feeders I had to do-over.
