Track and electrical/DCC

Bachmann harness diagram

I searched this forum and didn't find anything so I'll ask the question. I am installing a Tsunami 1000 in a Spectrum 2-10-2 for a friend. Based on their decoder and 8-pin plug, I a m pretty sure I can ID the wires by color. What I want to clarify is the 4 and 2 wire harness wiring as the color has mostly been obliterated by paint.

Is the 2 wire the track voltage from the drivers coming into the decoder? And the 4 wire would be the decoder output back to the motor and front light?

LED Layout Lighting Test Drive

I’ve been running a test of the LED strip lighting from LED Wholesalers. I’ve got a double deck layout under construction. I purchased 1 16-foot strip of the 3100K temp lights and a second 16-foot strip of the 6000K lights. I cut the 16-foot strip in half and mounted the resulting 8-foot strips side-by-side on a 1-3/8 x ¼ strip of hemlock.

Peco Insulfrog vs electrofrog

Looking for someone with knowledge of Peco crossings.   I am in need of a Peco code 83 #6 crossing and there are two types, insulfrog and electrofrog.  I am planning on using Tam Valley's Frog Juicers but the question is this; is the insulfrog isolated and metal whereby I can electrify or do I need the electrofrog, and if I do need the electrocfrog version are the frogs isolated?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What DCC System to use?

I am a noobie to model railroading and need some recommendations for  DCC systems, and have researched enough about the decoders so I have that covered but I have not come across much about the systems. I do not need a wireless handheld as my layout is small but I welcome all suggestions.

Thanks,

Kev

Richlawn RR V2 - Doodlebug control

Previously I had shared that on my new railroad that I am going to have an excursion B&O doodleburg running at the back of the layout.  Why?  Because I want one?  Why B&0?  Because it was on sale.  I will have a freelance layout so I can have what I want!  Picture below from Walthers of the doodlebug.

Using a tablet as a Wi-Throttle with JMRI

Hello folks,
I was just wondering if any of you are running a Wi-Throttle/JMRI interface using a tablet over a smartphone. Can anyone that has used both comment on which they like better? I would think one of the smaller tablets out there would be better and less cumbersome, but I have yet to try it. There seem to be a multitude of 7" tablets out there that are retailing for under $100 lately.

LED locomotive headlights

I know this is a very simple question, but I'm totally addled when it comes to anything electronic-related

I want to convert my DC locomotive headlights from campfire-in-the-cab bulbs to LED's. Do I want to use 3mm bright-white LED's with 470 ohm resistors?

My plan is to paint the inside cab roof black, cut an LED into the plastic light inserts, and add a styrene "ceiling" under the light to prevent light leakage. Is that the "standard" method?

All advice is appreciated.

Jim
