Which Wire Stripper is Best?

I want to buy a new wire stripper and I'm looking at 2 options from Klein.

Kato DCC Just Stopped

I haven't run my Kato F3 DCC loco in a couple of months. Tonight when I put it on the track it wouldn't move. All my other locos run fine. This one doesn't seem to have any power going to it. I checked the circuit board and it seems secure with no loose connections. I've already tried re-programming it but it just sits there, dead.  any suggestions?

DCC/Y/RETURN LOOPS

I know return loops and or Y's require their polarity to be switched.  Nearly all of the references mention that the switched track section must contain the whole train.  Is this intended to include rolling stock with insulated axles or just the power units?  I can't see how normal insulated axle rolling stock could cause a short.

Thanks

DCC issues with two locomotives with Digitrax Decoders

I was cleaning the wheels on two locomotives (N scale).  One was the Atlas GP-38-2 and the other was the Kato F-7A.

Colorized smoke

Looking to create colorized smoke.

Namely a iron oxide red, nat gas flaming blue.

Looking to do this for industrial sceenery, namely steel industrial stuff.

Iron oxide red smoke to be used for slag pit, steel-making stack, BF cast house.

The blue for BF bleeder (gas bleed off burner).

Is it a matter of adding a coloring compound, or buying the stuff.

Think cheap, the cheaper the better.

conundrum

Hi all I have a problem with an atlas code83 turnout. The engine stutters and if going very slow will  stop on turnout. I have cleaned the points and pivots. checked wiring. if i push down slightly on loco it will start again. this by the way happens with all three of my engines. Im stumped. I should add that this is just straight dc.thanks Dick

Superelevated Curves, Wheel Drag

On my HO switching layout I have 24-Inch radius "super elevated" curves using plastic shims underneath the ties.  All curves have proper easements.

The super elevation height change is very gradual, (at least slightly longer than my longest 60-foot car), and set at the following levels throughout the turn:

.010 - before the start of the curve and into the begging of the curve

.020 - next level up

.030 - maximum elevation

The super elevation of the curve than decreases from .030 to .020 to .010

DCC throttle keeps going back to zero

I have a DT400 Digitrax throttle and lately I have noticed an aggravating issue. I will be running a train, and the throttle will just reset itself back to zero speed, without me touching it. I will move the throttle knob back up to the speed i want and within a short period of time it will once again set itself back to zero. The throttle is plugged into Loconet. Its not on battery and has no battery installed. When I use any other throttle like a UT4 it works just fine. Anyone run into this problem?

Sprog3

Let's assume I know little to nothing about DCC (very accurate assumption).  Instead of programming CVs numerically, I want to use a plug-and-play graphical interface.

Exactly what does a Sprog3 do?

What do I need to program using DecoderPro-style?  Have a laptop and a test track, but what needs to go between them?

Cost is a consideration, of course.

Turnout control using servos top mounted in 2" foam

I've posted previously that I'm using top mounted servos in my 2" thick foam benchtop to operate the turnouts on my Richlawn Railroad V2 layout.  This post shows the details of this type of installation.  Here's the steps I take to install the servo:

1.) Determine the position of the turnout on the foam and mark it's location and also make the line for the control wire / tube.

2.) Mark the position of the servo in the correct location to line up with the control wire / tube.
