The Future of DCC

With all the newer technology out there and the speed that it advances, where is the future of DCC really heading, especially in the smaller scales? I understand that most of the technology in our DCC Systems has long been “out of date” compared to the growth and speed of its advancement.

Ring Engineering has proven there can be advancements to the DCC systems and the ease of its inner workings (programing and customizing settings of each loco) so why can’t Digitrax, NCE and others do the same?

Soldering to Frogs on ME Microengineering Turnouts

Hi All,

Can anyone summarize your best technique for successfully soldering a feeder wire to the frog of a HO scale Microengineering #6 turnout (switch)?

I've been reading a bit of a horror story here:

http://espeecascades.blogspot.com/2013/02/my-micro-engineering-turnout-f...

So, given the above tale of woe, I am not interested in repeating the same experience.  Obviously, many of you out there have done this successfully on ME turnouts without issues, so what's your secret?

Dcc Company

Hello all. I'm looking for a resource that will give me comparative data of functionality capabilities of all the major dcc companies. I'm currently with Digitrx but I want to see what else is out there. My objective here Is that I want to make sure I'm aligned with the right company; one that will best leverage future technological breakthroughs within the hobby. The fast-paced tech development aspect of our hobby is thrilling. If the last 10 years has told us anything, it's that the best is yet to come. Thank you.

Athearn MP-15 AC decoder?

I purchased a MP-15 AC several years ago.  I think it was about 2007.  I am trying to program the locomotive, and it won't take any of the changes from Decoder Pro nor the Power Cab from NCE.  I can program the number, but that appears to be it.  I can not change the start voltage, or momentum.  When the Power Cab is used, the manufacture come up a different number each time, and the version is also different.

Should I get a Tsunami or is there something I am missing?

DCC _Engineer_ system, feedback required...

Dear MRHers,

OK, here's a straight up comparison question for the brains trust:

Your thoughts on:

- NCE Cab04P + SB5

VS

- Digitrax UT4 + DB150

???

Tortoise power

The tortoise slow motion sw machine requires a simple DC supply of not more than 12 Volts.  Lesser voltage will make the tortoise run slower and quieter.    I have a regulated power supply that outputs 13.8 volts at 2 amps constant and 4 amps surge.  Will an extra 2 volts burn out the tortoise motor?  or just make it noisier.  If a problem what's the formula or procedure to reduce the voltage?   Thanks for any help....  Cecil

Wireless JMRI or LocoNet throttle idea

I have another half-baked idea, and I'd love some input, suggestions, or assistance.  I keep thinking about the throttles that are currently available.  They're either bulky, uncomfortable, complicated, expensive, or some combination of the above.  Then I think about other similar things in other applications, and they're none of the above.  I'd like to see a little more crossover.

Recommended Decoder for Brawa N guage loco

Hi, I've got a couple of Brawa N gauge diesel locos (article 61004) of the German class 232.

I need to install some decoders (no sound - no room) and am trying to decide between Lenz Gold mini, ESU LokPilot micro V4.0 and an Uhlenbrock  decoder. I use Fleischmann Twin Center as my DCC controller.

Any recommendations/opinions.

Why isn't Lenz DCC more popular?

First of all, I want to make it clear from the outset that this isn't one of those Digitrax/NCE/Lenz "my system's better than yours" threads.  I was just following a thread on the Proto-Layouts Yahoo group over the weekend about problems being experienced with Digitrax and NCE systems, and this topic occurred to me because those systems are so popular.

Turnout to Parallel Track

I'm a sixty-six year old beginning model railroader who is still in the layout planning stage. My question is quite basic, but I have not been able to find the answer on forums or in books.

When using a turnout to connect a through track to a parallel siding, how does one connect the divergent route to the parallel track with a smooth curve?
