Track and electrical/DCC

Tortoise Control - Need Your Assistance Please

I am very nearly finished cutting sub-roadbed and will be laying track soon. The plan is to build each track "section" on the workbench for transfer to the benchwork once complete. Think of it as building fully functional track work modules off the layout.

To avoid confusion of terms let's call a railroad switch a turnout and an electrical switch a switch.

#5 turnout- hinge or not?

Have a couple of these to make, and wondering if I should hinge the points or leave it all one rail (the closure and the point).  Prototypical is for a hinge but the #5 isn't that long I think to go to the trouble.  On the other hand can the throw bend things enough for a nice fit?  It will be motor switched, and code 70 rail.

Digitrax DB150

The track status light is out and I don't have power to my tracks. The power is getting to the DB150 - hope this doesn't mean that I'm up for a new one. Long way from my home to Digitrax too. Any clues as to what can be tried to fix this problem? It is a few years old. Thanks. Tom

Converting loco from DCC to DC

I have a Bachmann On30 Forney that I want to convert from the OEM DCC Soundtraxx decoder to straight DC.  This is what I think I need to do and would like input as to whether this is correct:

Digitrax UT4 and Zephyr issue

Question for the group, I have a Digitrax Zephyr controller and added a remote UT4 throttle.  When the throttle is plugged in the train becomes jerky (slows down) in some spots on my layout.  The situation continues even after adding additional rail feeders.  This situation doesn't occur when the UT4 is unplugged.   Would appreciate if anyone has any ideas.  Thanks Kevin Valentine/McKinney TX

ROCO double slip turnout

Any thoughts on reliability and operation of the Roco 42496  H0/83 Double Slip Turnout (10 Degree frog, effective 37.75in radius on diverging leg)?

Would this be compatible with Atlas code 83 track?

Thanks

Alan
