Track and electrical/DCC

How important the volts

Just recently bought the MRC Decoder Dr and like it. I added alligator clips so I could not only use it on my layout but help friends in distress DCC wise on their layout.  When at a friends place we used the Digitrax 14 volt power supply - PS14 - which is 14 volts.

Need help with wiring Shinohara #6 double slip switch for DCC

I have read many places that as long as you insulate the bifurcating end of Shinohara or Walthers code 83 switch (made by Shinohara) it will make those switches DCC compatible. Or you can cut the rail just past the frog.

So I have a Walthers Shinohara #6 double slip switch and that thing bifurcates at both ends so I assume I need to insulate the rails on all sides. So how do I power the rails on this thing? Help!

Using an arduino to inject DCC commands?

Hi All,

I''m hoping that someone with more EE knowledge than I have can help me with a project I've been working on.

My layout is DCC; I use an NCE Powercab (which supplies the power and DCC commands). My turnouts are DCC concepts Cobalts, with DCC decoders. I use the Powercab DCC accessory buttons to throw the turnouts. This all works fine. I also have numerous animations that are all controlled via DCC as well (via Tam Valley Singlet servo controllers).

Old Switch Help

I received several of these older switch machines, and do not know how to power them. They have the red/black/green wires that go to the switch track itself, but I don't see where I would then connect the switch machine to a transformer.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Need suggstions on how to make a template for custom turnout

I would like to use the a fast track twistties #8 (or if necessary a #10) turnout for this project.  It will be a curved turnout where I want to draw a 36" radius track (using 3rd PlanIt) and than lay the twisttties following the 36" radius for the inside (i.e diverging) route.

Hand Laid Tie Spacing

I'm about to build a jig to position wood ties so that I can put a strip of tape on them and then glue to the road bed. I've been seeing varying measurements for the spacing (on center) what do you use for main line and siding?

Level track

Before I lay my road and subsequently track, I need to level several areas. I was thinking about using Woodland Scenics 'Smooth It' to level the areas where the roadbed will lay. Any other, possibly less expensive ideas. I have plaster cloth laid down but it's rough and uneven so I think I'd better smooth it before I go much further.

Thanks-Tim

Caboose Ground Throws

I'm getting ready to lay my track on my N scale layout. I've decided to use Caboose ground throws. From what I can research, everything seems pretty easy and straight forward. Are there any 'gotchas' or things I should be aware of before I start the installation.

Thanks-Tim

QSI Quantum Engineer Controller

Has anyone used or have any experience with the QSI Quantum Engineer Controller add-on sound system, especially with DC and not DCC control? I have an MRC Controlmaster Walkaround throttle, and was wondering if it is possible to use or adapt this to my throttle?

Electrical Needs

I am beginning to expand/improve my current layout. I want to add more overhead lighting, scenery lighting, etc., and powered switches. I currently only have one outlet (20 amp) servicing my DCC bus work, 2 overhead fluorescent lights, and my home furnace! So I definitely need to put my layout on a separate dedicated circuit and add 4 or five more outlets around the layout to prepare for these future enhancements.
