ESU function mapping Shift Mode

I was going to ask on Tim's thread about how he sets up ESU decoders but it is different enough to be it's own topic.

DC testing of DCC wired layout

I'm actually getting close to running some trains on the lower decks of my new layout,...lower main level & sub-level staging decks. I've wired it to be a DCC layout, but have NOT yet installed any of those DCC circuit boards.

My thoughts are to pre-test the layout with DC control,...to find any shorts, mis-wirings etc.

Can this be done? Can I just hook up a good DC power pack to my buss wiring??

Track templates

Can you guys recommend some places to find some good track templates for curves. I use to have a nice set of wooden ones but they’re mia now. Need to make a 24ish type curve.  Thanks Pat

Scaletrains ES44 not starting motion until speed step 2

Hello all,

Got a DCC ready Scaletrains ES44 a little while back and just installed Loksound V5 in it. Works like a charm with one exception. The locomotive actually starts moving at speed step 2, not 1 like it should. I have a Scaletrains ET44 that had DCC factory installed, it starts to crawl at speed step 1 like it should. I know this is just a CV tweak but need advice on which CV to change and what to change it to. Thanks in advance!

Detection, Ardunio and JMRI/CMRI

So, I posted awhile ago about my quest to begin signaling and detection on my current 12x24' Phase 1 Yard and mainline part of my railroad. I decided to go with a Arduino set-up and couple it into JMRI/CMRI and make the entire thing 1 big dispatched piece. I thought it would be easier at this stage doing this versus trying to build the entire road then coming back. I've been working on detection, and have it a bit of a road block.

stopped running?

not sure why but last night two of my gp9's stopped running?

both are different manf, walthers mainline (decoder?), athearn genesis tsunami 2. both factory installed dcc.

they were in my yard tracks, along with 8 others.

both still have controlled lights, bell, horns, just no movement. i tried a full reset.

trying to read in the digitrax booklets. using a DCS210. with a dedicated program track.

and yes no problems before.  was running them as out of the box programing, had not played around with any settings.

Tsunami 2: Way to add delay before movement?

Not to incite a street fight over TSU vs LokSound, but I will say that LokSound's ability to rev up before movement is nice. (I'm heavily vested in TSU2's for my installs. The LokSound decoders were pre-installed in my Atlas Gold GP7's.)

I can start the revs before movement with my TSU2, but I have to play with buttons. That is, I hit F8, which is "Straight to 8" on my functions, and once the prime mover notches up a bit, I start the movement and disengage the "Straight to 8" feature by toggling off via the F8 key.

My question:

Setting Up CV Lighting Effect Inquiry

Hi,

Wondering if someone can help me out.  My apologies for the long note but want you to know where this is coming from.  I’m new to installing DCC decoders and setting up CVs.  The gentleman who installed and setup my decoders for years has retired so I’m learning as I go.  I used to tell him what I wanted and it would be done.

LokSound Throttle Movement Delay

I have several LokSound equipped locomotives and by default there is about a 2 second delay before the model moves when you advance the throttle. I know that by changed the value in CV124, you can completely remove that delay, but I'd like to know if there is some secret setting(s) that would allow you to reduce the movement delay to say 1 or 1 1/2 seconds? I searched the 'net far and wide and can't find anything in regard to this.
