Track and electrical/DCC
8 ver 21
i do not know why but looking at another couple power units, (like i need any more). and they are only on sale as dcc ready, ? might cost less to buy ready made dcc and sound,
but my question is the factory kato has only a 8 pin not the 21 pin. is this even worth it? or just wait till i find in dcc with sound? what is the difference other than the number of pins?
brand is not that important, but a couple brands i will not even think about buying, no matter how good the deal might look.

Updated question regarding my previous inquiry about my staging tracks....
My original question was about routing and powering on/off tracks in my staging area. The schematic is below.
As I noted yesterday, I received many very useful responses. Again, thanks to all...

Best Wiring Approach for My Staging Tracks
Here is a schematic of my 4 staging tracks. I am preparing to wire them. I understand there are a variety of possible approaches I might use. What I want to achieve is to set the turnouts at the end of each staging track to the proper orientation and provide power to that track only. I want to do this with the simplest approach using DCC or not.
Helix track work
Hi everyone, i need some advice on track work for my helix. I decided to build a nice helix that will be 5 1/2 tiers to get trains from the lower level to the top level, it also provides a turn around at the bottom level. My helix radius is 36 inches I have everything figured out and several tiers build and completed with cork laid. My tiers are built on a bench, where cork, wiring, track will be assembled and then taken into the layout room and will be put on one level at a time. Everything is going great but i have one question about laying th

DCC related questions
I have several Athearn RTR engines that I installed TCS decoders in but lost track of which ones were installed. Is there a way to tell without opening up a bunch of engines to found out which have decoders? If I have JRMI on a computer connected to a programing track using the Loco Buffer, would it tell me that info?
Other question is I have some Tam Valley Hex frog juicers and the literature recommends wire ranging from 22-26 AWG to the frogs. As it happens, I have a bunch of stranded 20 AWG wire on hand, would it be ok to use that instead to the frogs?

NCE CAB 06p vs CAB 06e?
I have a NCE Powercab and a Cab 06p throttle. I am an older guy and I prefer the knob on the Cab 06 as opposed to the thumb wheel on the Powercab. The problem I have is that in order to get the nice slow speed and smooth control on the CAB 06p that the Powercab throttle produces in 128 speed steps I have to limit the speed of my locomotives by setting the CV5 to a low number. This is because the Cab 06p knob has limited travel since it has stops at both ends. So my question is, Since the CAb 06e has unlimited knob travel can it be set to 128 speed steps and pro

UWT-50 throttle
I have read on other forums that the throttle is shipping, yes or no?
The TCS website has nothing to say about the UWT-50 shipping.
