A Blank Slate

Although I haven't been a member for very long I have read a great number of posts on MRH. It is quite clear to me this is a community of experienced and insightful modelers. I am especially intrigued by the way you subjectively analyze proposed track plans. You consistently point out “errors”, if I may use the term, the builder would not have discovered until after much effort had been put forth. May I put a little twist on the track plan idea and ask you to apply your experience and expertise to a blank slate?

Design a HO engine-service yard, or fuel tank dump Yard

I am trying to come up with a good yard layout (2' x 6' open on one end only). engine-service yard, 3 stall and or fuel tank storage yard. I have buildings for both.  Have any Ideas or places to veiw a HO yard of this size?

Help with figuring out a layout

Would anyone have any ideas for my personal layout?  Now, I'm not asking for you to decide what my layout should be, I just want some ideas. Made the mistake before of not clarifying, and got the lecture about It's your layout, Do what you want!  That's the thing, I have the ideas of doing a freelanced layout based on the CSX operations in North Florida, mainly focusing on switching, with a possible through-train on the mainline, but I have drawn a blank for the industries.

Even more simplification? (Layout Critique)

I've posted design options here before and always tried to complicate things (even last time)!  The truth of the matter is that I don't have a lot of space.  At the prompting of my lovely wife (who by the way thinks I don't really want to FINISH a layout, just keep redesign it...) I have tried to simplify things, yet capture the things that I would like to see in my miniature world.

Layout design Journal back issues

I hope this doesn't violate the TOS - if so please delete with my deepest apologies....

I know the LD SIG has back issues for sale but I also there are times when folks just need to clean out some space.  I'm looking for about 1995 on up. I'm looking for larger sets rather than individual issues since shipping could get out of control  - $12.00'ish  a decade vs $2.99 an issue.

E mail me if this something you are interested in.

Office room shelf layout - Care to critique??

I've attached a jpg of an office room shelf project I am planning.  Room is roughly 10.5' x 9' and only three sides are useable because of an entry door and 5' bi-fold doors on one wall, so the layout must be a "U" and I would like to stay no more than 12" deep.  As you can hopefully see the door and the bi-folds will limit the trackage behind them.

Prairie State Railroad design work in process

I have been busy over the past couple of years working on designing my future model railroad:  The Prairie State Railroad Company.  This layout, inspired by Bill Darnaby's Maumee Route layout in HO scale, is essentially going to be designed much like his HO layout, but done in N scale.  As long a mainline run as possible in the space allotted, being a shelf layout inside a 16 by 17 foot room in a 16 by 22 foot garage (the extra space is the workshop and hidden staging yards).

Industrial layout ideas

Hi All,

I'm currently in the process of designing the upper level of our J&L Railway, I have already designed the lower level (posted in the "Getting Started" thread) and I'm looking to design the upper level as a industry/city scheme. The upper deck will maintain the same dimensions and area as the lower, and the peninsula will be used as a city block scene.  The operations will predominately be switching on the upper deck.

My Hometown

When I was a little girl, my grandfather would let me work on his layout.  Choosing and building kit homes... cleaning track... landscaping, etc.  His recent passing has me all sentimental.  I would like to begin a layout of my hometown.

I am looking for help with my design.  I want to do this in 'N'scale, but I don't know the conversion rate. (miles to inches).

Thanks for your help and advice.

Popop's Helper, Michelle.
