Lubricationg GP-20

I have a Walthers Proto 2000 GP-20.  It has a factory installed tsunami sound decoder.  It runs great, however, being about a year old I want to do some basic lubrication.  The people at Walters said the shell, weights, and decoder must be removed to get to the worm.  I thought about just removing the cover plate on the bottom of each truck and lubricating them.  Does any one have experience doing this?  Any better ideas for lubricating that engine.

Thanks

New sound decoder?? Nope. New engine.

Well do I spend over 100 bucks to buy a sound decoder, speaker, baffle etc and then spend hours trying to fit it all into a Bachmann GP30, or go for one already done? Easy answer. A brand new Bachmann S4, Milwaukee Road, complete with sound. Is it Broadway Limited, or Atlas or P2K? No but thats okay. For my small industrial switching layout, an S4 is the perfect thing to work in and out of those tight spaces. Looking forward to hearing it, seeing it and running it.

Sound decoder for Bachmann

Hello all. Looking for some guideance. Needing a sound decoder for a Bachmann GP40. I checked Digitrax and they don't list one. I checked Soundtrax but they don't tell you want decoders work in what units. Anyone installed a sound decoder in a Bachmann GP40?

Tier 4 Engines

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, since I'm kind of new here, but I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not it would be possible to upgrade a standard EMD 645 to tier 4 standards. I am planning a freelanced modern shortline running rebuilt EMD power. One of my options is swapping all prime movers for new Cummins units that meet tier 4 regulations as part of my storyline. This presents a problem however when it comes to selecting a decoder for sound.

IAIS's West End - Faded UP Glory

Several months ago, I got a great deal on an Athearn Genesis UP GP38-2 in the original UP scheme.  This post documents the steps I took to update this model to represent a battle-worn 2005-era UP unit that operated on the IAIS.

Oct 2015 Act III - Notch 8: Blue box loco handrails upgrade

Whether you are working on an older locomotive with crude wire handrails or a newer unit with thinbrass  plastic railings that won't hold their shape, brass stanchions and railings are a good alternative.  Efram Ellenbogen shows how he installs them on an Athearn "blue box" SD40-2. Building A Piece Of History Now: Thurmond West Virginia-Backdrops 10/29

I am working on a design for a small scene for demonstrating scenery and track work for out model railroad. It will be small (roughly 1ft. x 1ft. with the front curving) I am looking for design ideas and what an interesting scene would be. Any ideas from those on here?

Thanks for all of your suggestions everyone. Thurmand seemed like a good location and the below area is what we will model. It will include a cantilever signal seen on the right and the three buildings as low relief background structures.

IAIS's West End - A 45-tonner for Harlan Elevator

The 2-mile-long Atlantic Spur has long been a bit of a thorn in my side.  Its location puts it in an aisle on my layout, so I've never been able to really do it justice, only modeling about the first 30" of the spur.  Which means I've never been able to model ADM's Harlan Elevator at the end of the spur (see http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/18055 ).

Older Life Like GP7

I dis-assembled an older LL GP7 to install a decoder.  I have found that it has only one black wire coming from each truck.  Thses wires are coming from the same side.  The only Red wire is attached to the frame with a threaded screw.  Is this acting as the left side truck power?  I do not have another engine to take apart and check this out.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
