Adding speaker to HO Model 40 Critter
I recent purchased an Athearn HO EDM Model 40 critter. A little gem. Only 11 i believe were built in the early 40's. Installed an ESU Ver 5 Micro DCC decoder. I first tried to add sound inside the cab. There was plenty of room for a sugar cube type speaker. However it was very muted because the cab is sealed and there really are no openings in the frame or grills for sound to emit..

Proto 2000 FA1 and FB1 Soundtraxx DCC Install, Lighting and Detailing
I found a set of these Proto 2000 Alco FA-1 and FB-1 in CPR Maroon and Gray in like new condition at Central Hobbies from a collection. They’re still DC.
Atlas HO RS11 and Sharp Curves
Can the Atlas RS11 traverse sharp curves? (like 15" radius)
Can it do so without modification?
15" Radius Friendly F-Units
What brands/ product lines of HO F Units are 15" radius curve friendly (i.e., they can negotiate a 15" radius curve without modification)?
Preferably you've tested your own locos so you know they will work.

Painting a locomotive
I have a Kato NW2 I got off Ebay that was originally DRGW, but had a coat of thick brown paint and then half of a clumsy, green Reading paint job applied over that. I'm stripping the paint off with isopropyl alcohol and q-tips (does anyone know a better implement for this job?) and it has a black plastic shell. I plan to repaint the engine Southern Sylvan Green, should I use primer or apply some Reefer Yellow as a lighter base coat?

Rail technology company Wabtec has demonstrated an electric locomotive that could help lessen the environmental footprint of heavy-haul freight services. The company's battery-powered FLXdrive locomotive was used as part of a hybrid system over a three-month trial, where it reduced the fuel consumption of the entire vehicle by 11 percent.
Locomotive movement from rest
This topic is related to one I started yesterday about sound decoders, but I set it up separately in prototype discussion in case not too many people are interested in endlessly tweaking sound decoders.
The baseline question is can diesel electric locomotives move away from rest without changing the prime mover from idle?
Proto 2K SW9: 15" Radius friendly?
Will a Proto 2000 SW9 negotiate a 15" radius curve without modification?
Is it "15 inch radius friendly" so to speak?
