Squeaking in brand new Athearn Genesis GP9 HO-Scale
I got a brand new Athearn Genesis GP9 Rio Grande Phase II 5913 (G62459), in DC.
I tested it in DC and it worked beautifully.
I converted it to DCC using a Tsunami 2, that was no problem, I've done that before many times.
A few days later as I was done weathering it and I put the shell back, I noticed the engine squeaking when I ran it on my test track. I isolated the squeaking issue to be in the motor/flywheel assembly, here's a video showing it clearly:
Gyra light won't flash on my IM GP10
Need some help. I was programming my Intermountain GP10 and went through the process of dimming the lights because I felt they were too bright. I couldn't find any clear instructuons in the LokSound manual (at least for me) in what CV's Dim the headlight, number boards, nose frog eye light, gyra light, and marker lights. Ok, I managed to get the rear headlight and nose frog eye light dimmed. I also got the number boards dimmed. I couldn't figure out how to dim the marker lights and now the gyra light won't flash.
Order of diesel work (inside/outside)
I'm reviewing the order I'm doing my diesel work in. I have some diesels that are factory painted and will have some additional details added, some weathering, proper couplers, and DCC/Sound/Lights.
Should I get the electrical work out of the way first and then tackle the detail/weathering work? It seems when I have a completed model (like an older one I've done with details/paint/weathering) and then added DCC, some of the details get clobbered and need to be fixed.
I'm wondering if I should get the inside done first and then the outside.
B&O C&O Two Tone E8 Passenger Paint Scheme
I am working on an E8 for either the B&O or C&O (Haven’t decided which yet) but I am trying to find out for the simplified two tone passenger Blue/Gray scheme what color to use for the Gray from the Tru-Color line. Any advice would be greatly appreciated…TYA, Don
Good sound decoder for Walthers HO Alco RS-2?
9 pin ready. Running mostly steamers. Could use ideas for 50’s diesel sounds.
Diesel Locomotive Wishlist
Is anybody else tired of the same locomotives being released over and over by different companies? The SD40-2 has been done at least a million times. I give Scale Trains credit for upping the ante for everyone but can't we have some other diesels? What diesel do you wish would have a high detail release or a first release.
High-Hood GP20s in GN and BN are very scarce or overpriced and would be at the top of my wishlist.
I can't recall any articles/videos focusing narrowly on paint touch-up techniques
I've spent many interesting and useful hours viewing videos and reading posts/articles/pdfs about painting (rolling stock and locomotives particularly) but I cannot recall ever coming across anything that focused primarily on repairing minor scratches/dings our models (particularly the ones we actually operate) can accumulate. I have a few items that could use a bit of patch work but I'm not really prepared to strip them down to the bare shell/brass unless boxed into a corner. Some of what I have was purchased painted by the factory so I have no idea what brand
Bent handrails
I had packed up all of my motive power to evacuate for Hurricane Irma. When I unpacked them today as expected I have some handrails that are bent. Next time (hope I never do it again) I will put something between the handrail and body. They are mostly on newer Atlas, Athearn and Kato engines with thinner handrails the older ones are fine. Any suggestions on how to get them back in shape without breaking them?
How would you mask for a two color paints scheme like this?
Hi!
I’ve got a few locomotives that need to be painted so that I can post the pictures on Loco for Locos.....
Its common Vermont Railway colors, Red body and Black roof. My thought is to paint (airbrush) the red first then mask off for the black. I’m interested in any thoughts and working procedures for achieving a good crisp color demarcation like the Atlas in the picture below.
Loco for Locos!
Me:
"Doctor, it started harmlessly with me getting just one locomotive.....and then another.....and then another....and then another...... I can't seem to control myself even though I have a small layout I justify that I need more locos so I won't get bored seeing the same ones over and over."
