Installing missing ties...
Moving right along, last night I began the task of installing the missing ties from the track work.
It's a little tedious, but it moves along pretty quickly. It also means that once completed I can begin painting the track.
Side Dump Waste Cars
You might have seen these side dump waste cars working tramp work around any line, at Bingham Canyon mine they were part of the main roster, 1961 they had 258 in service. The stripping ratio. was 3 to 1 moving waste rock to get to the ore. Some of the pictures are from the Larry Sax collection found at utahrail.net.
Last section of Backdrop...
Finishing up all the little jobs before moving onto painting the track.
Resist(or) or Not Resist(or)
Need an electrical guru to help me understand lighting of buildings and signals etc.
I have a number of different lights I am dealing with and not sure if (and what kind) of resistor to put in line if itis needed. I am wiring building lights to a power pack accessories port - plus and minus wires to a plus and minus barrier strip and wires from building lights to the appropriate strip. so far, I have been using those little lights with the black base on a sticky pad. They seem to work well.
AHM GP 18 chessie systems locomotive truck parts
I have an AHM GP 18 locomotive that was dropped and broke one of the trucks. This engine has the motor in the middle with 2 drive shafts that are all in good shape. The truck with gear box was damaged and need to replace it. Ive checked all the usual places ebay, amazon, Tranz, etc. Does anyone have a suggestion for a dealer or other to purchase this item.
thanks

Need Assistance -Programing Sound Decoders
I am having issues programming sound decoders. I have a Digitrax DCS 51 system with a dedicated and isolated programming track. On Direct mode I can change the 4 digit address for sound decoders, but the system will not read/write any other CV’s. What can I do?
Smart Layout Automation...
So tonight was something a little different, one of the processes in having a layout is the vast amount of electrical equipment.
Turning on a DCC command station & booster, seperate power supplies for detection & signaling, layout PC, three monitors, PC Sound, LokProgrammer...
Can after awhile become a PITA! When you have everything tucked away nicely under the layout too, it can start to become a little bit of hassle to turn “everything” on.

Adding Sounds to Structures on the Layout . . . a Proof of Concept Project
I have always wanted to add sounds to my layout and have been looking for a DIY approach, so I could have maximum flexibility. I came across micro MP3 players on a website (usually in the context of an Arduino) and decided to see if I could make it work with a microchip.com microcontroller (in this case, a PIC16F15356). I got it to work, which was pretty amazing. The little MP3 player cost a whopping $1.89 from ebay and the microcontroller rang in at about $0.75, The most expensive part is the micro SD card, but I think I might have a better solution for that . . .
