Kit bash/size reduction of New River coal tipple

I realized I haven't posted to my blog in awhile so I thought I'd show y'all what I've been up too with the layout. It became quickly apparent while trying to finish the branch to the mine that I was going to have to have some idea of the footprint. I first though I was going to have enough room for a Walther's New River Mining Co. pretty much box stock with three tracks. Probably could have shoehorned it in there but it would have looked "crammed in".

History of the Kilkenny Railroad Part II: The Androscoggin River

Along the corridor of the Kilkenny logging railroad the Androscoggin River flows eastward.  The Androscoggin River is one of the largest rivers in New England spanning over 170 miles across New Hampshire and Maine.   By the mid-1800’s the Androscoggin was home of some of the world’s largest paper mills.

Green Town Illinois Railroad

Where does this start?

With a boy called Douglas Spaulding who is mostly Ray Bradbury but really is every boy, and it begins with a summer when he discovered how much magic and tragedy the world could hold in a place called Green Town Illinois in a book called Dandelion Wine. The year is 1928 and there is a trolley that sparks its way around town for a few chapters at least until its final ride.

Old Skool Diesel Shop - U30B

I did something this week I haven't done in many years: I decaled a locomotive.  This is another one of my loco projects that's languished in a box, then on a shelf, waiting for me to spend some time on them again.  It's not done yet, as Dullcote and weathering are still to come, along with some wheel slip indicator details and window glass, but it's close.  About time as I painted it no later than about 1997.

Reflections on Comstock, McGuirk, and Fictional Histories

In the latest issue of MRH, contributing editor Charlie Comstock touched on what he referred to as the 'summer doldrums.' I used to look upon such concepts as a simple excuse for not getting anything done. A way of justifying a break from working on a layout. Years ago, a neighbor of mine used to get aggravated in a similar way.

Cold Storage...

I have had time to get some more done on the cold storage facility, but the more I looked at it, the more I decided I wanted to add another door.  Now it has gone from 30" to 38" long, and it means that I nee to re-do the long section of the photo pasteup.  I will be able to use the old one as a source of relief details.

Berkshire Revenue Run

Here are some brief clips of the first revenue run for the NKP Berkshire 763 pulling 18 piggyback cars - max grade was 2% across the layout. Enjoy.
