I have had time to get some more done on the cold storage facility, but the more I looked at it, the more I decided I wanted to add another door.  Now it has gone from 30" to 38" long, and it means that I nee to re-do the long section of the photo pasteup.  I will be able to use the old one as a source of relief details.

The other thing I wasn't real happy with was the unevenness of the wall sections.  I think I took my photos a bit too early and they were in the shade too much.  There were also four reefers spotted on the siding, and they cast shadows and reflected light weirdly and that meant a bunch of cutting and pasting.  I also forgot to renumber the door locations before I printed out the master.  I thought about painting it after I had it all glued up, but I thought it might be too hard to get it weathered right without messing up the rest of the photo.oldstorN.jpg

This is pretty much what I ended up with after stitching it all together.

I'll go back today and take more pix at about 1:00 or 2:00.  I noticed there weren't any cars spotted yesterday.. so here's hoping!

The building is the height of the wall section at the left, which will be a flat along the module edge.  The build out for the loading area will be the actual model.  I am using the paper faced foam core as the support, making it removable for track cleaning and such.  The loading section will run from the section joint toward the end of the module.  The building and little trailer on the left will be on the other section.  Hey! I should probably post a picture of the whole module design.  I have a schematic with a track plan, but not all the buildings and scenery elements.

  Something else to do..

Model Builders Computer Program

Have several building like this on layout. Works better generating with model builders than photos.

Model Builder software

I actually think i had looked at and downloaded one of their free buildings, but had forgotten all about it.  I looked it up on Google, and saw there was an older thread here on MRH, and went back and read up.  I am still pressing forward with the photo method, at least until I see how this one turns out, but I definitely will keep this resource in mind!

Thanks!

2nd attempt

I went back out and took another set of photos.

colstor2.jpg

This set is a little later in the day, the shadowing on the corrugated walls is much more pronounced.  They are also much closer to each other in color values.  The first set above I tweaked in the computer to get it to match as best I could, and this set is straight out of the camera with no adjustments other than straightening and stitching.

I think it looks MUCH better, even though it is late in the year and the shadows fall much more on the north side of the loading hoods.  This model will be used on my Freemo module and be viewed under sub-optimal lighting most of the time, so maybe having MORE obvious detail will be a bonus.

Still more cropping and adjusting to do, but overall much happier with this version!

I've forgotten some of the previous discussion on this, Toni, but have you looked at the free Microsoft ICE software for stitching panos? It might solve some of your problems.

ICE

No Joe, I hadn't heard of that software before.  It is downloading now...

Are you local to the Portland, OR area?  I had not heard of Columbia Art Supply either.  The last time I went looking for "art" stuff was at JK Gill - are they even around anymore? (Google here I come...)
