Structures on my WIHLA layout
I built my structures out of 'what I had lying around'. Check it out here: http://www.digitaltrainlab.com/2012/11/building-buildings-with-building-blocks.html
Bar Mills Models
What's happening at Bar Mills Models? The web site has been inactive for a few weeks.
Has anyone heard from them recently?
Yeah - SO! I went SHOPPING!
Being such a NOOB in most aspect of model railroading, even though I am (soon to be) 53 years old and have considered it to be my hobby for most of my life, it seems that I have actually done very little modeling! I have built a few buildings, though only two actually got painted. NEVER weathered a piece of rolling stock. NEVER laid ballast. Built a piece of hardshell scenery to try it out, but it never got groundcover or even paint! I have built a few trees, but most of that happened when I was still young and working in HO scale.
BN Nelson Sub. layout update
Here's an update on some things I've done on the layout.

Turnouts
To All: I need about 26 turnouts to complete the track work on the E.St.Louis Rail Group Layout. So I have been checking the LHS and Ebay for prices. Ouch! You would think they were made of gold or a rare commodity! They are running in the $15.00 to $20.00 price range. So I decided to make a right and left hand #6 turnout using a pattern of my own design. They took way too long to build and I am a quick worker! So I guess it's back to pricing. I don't even mind used ones. Yours, Elvin Howland/E.St.Louis Rail Group Layout
GE 70 tonner
Today i purchased a old style (2 motor) Bachmann 70 tonner for $20 though it has a pretty rough shell, it runs well and I am going to rebuild it. Once i get my camera working i will post pictures.
P.S. Thanks to the undenyable courtesy of Bernd the side frame issue has been solved, and i anxiously awiat their arrival.
(Edit) here it is with all useable parts and and unassembled, sorry my android will not let me imbed pictures.
Layout Statistics
Being somewhat of math geek, and not seeing a recent survey of how model railroaders break down by scale, era and method of control, I did one. This is by no means a scientific study, but does reinforce general conceptions about the hobby most of us have. I surveyed 163 layouts published in the 2010, 2011, and 2012 volumes of Model Railroader (and it's associated annuals Great Model Railroads and Model Railroad Planning), Railroad Model Craftsman, and Model Railroad Hobbyist.
Greyhaven Tramway - a look at a locomotive type...
Well, now that the background information is well and truly underway, I suppose some actual modeling might help. Attached is a photo of the Greyhaven Tramway electric motors #s 2 and 3. They are designed to represent a small (10-ton?) industrial centercab used for mining work, similar to locomotives produced by Orienstein-Koppel of Germany. I have a reprint of one of O-K's catalogs, and plan on making a rough model of an O-K 4-wheel industrial electric boxcab as the GHT's #1.
