Pokey 3.0 - Construction

It's been a year and half since I tore down my last layout so we could move.  After a lot of remodeling work in the new house I'm glad to say that I'm finally able to begin construction on a new layout, the Pokey 3.0!

As I've done before, this will be an HO free-lanced layout, based loosely on the N&W Pocahontas District between Bluefield, W. Virginia, and Williamson, W. Virginia, era 1966, with some Appalachian mountain scenery which I love.

The video I uploaded this week on my YouTube channel is on Copperton the last remaining town at the mouth of Bingham canyon, nothing to do with model railroading so I just share a link if you want to check it out; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHPgr-wWPwk&t=22s

real metal finish

I wanted to have my stainless steel passenger cars have a real metal look.  Since I don't have an airbrush, I needed something that could be brushed on.  looking through what I had on hand it occured to me that nothing looks more like metal then metal.  This is my most recent foil wrapped car, a Walthers mainline coach for the start of my sunset train.

Glacier Gravel becomes part of a mining industry.

Fall has arrived, snow has arrived so that means the winter modelling season has begun. I wanted a little more “beef” for my mining industry area. I am building the industry to fit the cars I already have. I have collected a number of smaller hoppers similar to ones used in the Fraction sand And potash industry. I also have a number of larger hoppers used on Canadian railways and for Canadian industries. If you have not followed my blog, I collect cars with Canadian railway names, or references to Canada not too many of the major players.

SMA35 Interactive DCC Decoders IDEC The Next Generation - Sequencing Movement Sound & Lighting v1.08

Scale Model Animation—bringing models to life—adds enormously to the interest and enjoyment of any layout or individual model! When I started out designing low-cost decoders, they were intended to facilitate my animation work.

SCL in 1984

Hey guys, back with a research request this time. One of the recent gentlemen that's shown up to the club here in town has a 30X30 building behind the house that he and I are planning on sticking a double decker/partial mushroom design in. Prototype is Seaboard Coast Line, era is 1984 between the L&N absorption and CSX, and territory is the Birmingham to Manchester section covering Birmingham, Bessemer, Cosa Pine, Talladega, LaGrange and Manchester.
