Pembroke II: Engine House Lead

The Proto:87 Posse rode to my place last night in the form of a visit from Andrew. As I mentioned, I'm eager to get back to the layout now that I know what I'm doing with track construction. So, we cleared off the door that is still awaiting installation in the laundry room, and plunked the south module down. Engineer House Lead

The Tidewater Southern

Recently, I was paid a bit of a complement.  I was told that "not many people do what you do", in reference to my choice of prototype that I model.  That's a bit of a double edged complement though.  On the one hand, hey, cool, I'm doing something fairly unique, and on the other hand, well, jeez...is there anyone else that does what I do?  So I figured I'd write a bit about it, since I also enjoy writing, and maybe, just maybe, someone out there is interested in this as well.

The Monday Night Mail Train 9-13

After missing August the Kanunda and Emu Flat Railway hosted an operating session for six operators on the ninth of September 2013. Every one enjoyed the session and the rains ran well. Here are a few photos and for more information please read the attached news letter while you can.

A Start on Scenery

I was able to get a good start on scenery this past weekend including laying down a base of ground foam as well as weathering and ballasting the yard tracks. Say goodbye to the Plywood Pacific!

MEC and B&M NH Scenic Railway construction started

I managed to get started earlier than expected on the railroad.  It was a small start, but felt great to begin.  I will be journalling the progress here over the coming months.  Today's accomplishments:

- Swapped furniture and rug around to establish boundary between guest bedroom end of room and railroad end of room.  What I could do with a whole room... but 1/2 a room is better than none.  Then cleared everything out of the railroad end to be ready to start.

Richlawn RR V2 - Swing Gate Part 2

In part one of my swing gate I made the basic gate and got lots of good input from many of you.  I want to give a special thanks to Trevor for posting links to his gate where I saw how he added a diagonal brace.  It got me to looking critically at my gate and I could see that with only one top hinge that any downward pressure on the end opposite the hinge could easily damage the hinge.  Here's what it looked like:

Ontario South Central Railway

Hello, my name is Brad Ketchen. I am a musician, music engineer, sound editor and composer living in the Greater Toronto area. I say the GTA as my Girlfriend and I are moving to a condo in Toronto. This creates a dilemma, as I figure out the future of my railroad, Ontario South Central Railway and accomodating it in our new living space. Luckily, my girlfriend understands the need for a room to relocate the OSCR as well as my current location of the railroad on the adjacent wall to my recording work station.

Pembroke II - Ballast Tests

The Canada Atlantic was ballasted with gravel quarried from various pits along the line, as were most railways of that period.  So, it should be a simple matter to simply dig up some dirt from the right of way or from one of the quarries, sift out the big chunks and glue it down.
