Turnout actuator calculations with a little bit of geometry and a little bit of engineering.
Attached is a libreoffice calc sheet to calculate the actuators behavior depends on the geometry, the material properties , the diameter of the wire and servo rotation, for a common turnout switch.
Dunn International Papers
Here a short clip of my paper mill layout, it’s a 10ft x 8ft U shaped switching layout.
The paper mill comprises of three tracks and two turnouts, which the branch comprises of three track, two on the branch itself and one that leads to the paper mill. There is also a tiny MOW siding which normally houses the railroad’s crane.
I’ve cherry picked ideas for Dunn Papers at Port Huron, MI and International Papers in Biglerville, PA allowing me to have a number of different that’s of cargo arrive and depart from the mill
I’m in Chicago for the next couple days Railfanning

That’s just one of the reasons.

All the Mistakes I've Made
I've learnt from yours, please learn from mine
Using TOMA to build a layout is a great approach because it allows you to make all your mistakes on one module, rather than your entire railroad. And while I'd like to think that I learnt from the mistakes of others, please let me share with you some of my own.
Testing awesome New Techniques at the Front of the Layout only to realise I am not awesome at it yet and should probably practice elsewhere
Walthers Cornerstone Mountain Lumber Co Build
I rarely ever break out of my comfort zone of wood kits. As I was packing/moving my shop to the new studio I found a few boxed treasures sitting on my "other stuff" shelf.
Adventures in N Scale
After my HO scale CFNR layout sat and collected dust for a couple years, I decided to give some mainline action of the modern day BNSF in Arizona a try. After researching parts of the Seligman Sub and the Phoenix Sub, I was intrigued by the Kingman, Az. area and the entire Phoenix Sub. I picked up a couple locomotives and pieces of rolling stock to test my weathering skills in such a small scale and saw some success. I next built a 1'x4' diorama set in the Arizona desert and again saw some success.

Proto-Freelance in West-Central CT - PPNL
Well, I'm back at it again after a hefty six year hiatus in the planning phase of my proposed layout: a couple job changes and a couple of kids redirected my efforts somewhat! Some time ago, when I was bright-eyed and naive, I posted a massive novella of a layout proposal to this site in hopes to get some criticism of my 40-some-odd pages of blabber. I thought I had everything planned out - from train names to how I'd eventually lay my turnouts - but I, like many starting out, was overambitious and the feedback I received was "w
