Fishy fishy fish fish... reefer traffic
As part of my research on traffic patterns in northern Manitoba for my layout, there are obvious sources (mines, concentrators and smelters, pulp mills, sawmills, grain, fuel, propane) and less obvious sources like fish.
Penn Lake 8: JMRI + Sprog
I run my layout using CVP's EasyDCC. While I like how it operates and especially the handheld throttles, the computer connection is royal pain, due to the serial RJ jack. You had to custom build a 9 pin serial to RJ cable, and I was never able to make it work.
CVP now offers the serial to RJ adapter, but when's the last time anyone saw a computer with a serial port. So now I would have to convert USB to SERIAL to RJ. Just seems like a recipe for problems.

Santa Fe - High Desert Division - Update 7/8/18
Layout Construction Update:
It has been some time since I posted an update as to the progress of the layout construction. Over the last 2 ½ months I have been working on installing the landscaping (scenery) at our new home. So it’s been all about moving topsoil, planting grass, planting trees…etc. so the layout room/area has taken a back seat. I have been working on it at night that is if I even have any energy left or if its raining. So here is the progress so far.
CR&N - PI-SPROG
My layout is not big. It’s a 9x4:5 foot shelf-style switching layout that only runs one loco at a time. I started out using straight DC before switching over to a NCE PowerCab (nice system). I had heard about using wifi to control trains, so eventually bought an NCE USB adapter. It was amazing to put down the tethered throttle! But...I had to have my laptop up and running and wires running here and there. There had to be a better way!
Got a Union Pacific Switch lantern for $10
Not bad for $10 at all not sure if it is original though even if it isn't looks nice and not a bad price anyone here knowledgable about them and can help me out mine seems to be missing me the bottom mounting hardware.
Finally got a kit done
My sea of blue needed something. I had this kit laying around for a while now so I figured I would build it. It is my first Walthers kit. Washed the parts with some dish soap. Hit the parts with my air brush. Glued them together, and added some pan pastels. I hope to have it in place ready for its first box car load tonight. Still needs details, but it i will look right at home on my shelf layout.
Proto Heritage 0-6-0 help
Hi All, have just purchased a Proto Heritage USRA 0-6-0 which has a missing "bolt" for one of the side rods. I'll Post Photos below. Does anyone know where I might source a replacement or indeed what the size/thread is for these. I tried HO Seeker for an exploded diagram as I haven't yet physically got the loco to see if leaflet(s) are in box.
TIA
