Prototype information
Perishable service bites the dust. Again.
The UP has announced it is discontinuing its Cold Connect perishable service. Perishables, along with livestock seems to be a traffic segment that just never seems to really pan out for railroads. Wasn't much of a surprise for those involved with it.

Would there be an industry here?
Hi everyone. I need to get one more industry onto my shelf layout but not sure if it would be correct. Here is my current set up.
I have an industry at A and one at B. There is room for one more at X but not sure if any railroad would do that as any cars there would need to be shifted to get to A or B.
Can you advise?
What do you think the dimensions are for these posts?
I keep talking myself into and out what size there posts are in this picture. Anyone want to make up my mind for me?
Thanks
Steve
RGS - some additional structure work, and 'planting'
Here's a new blog post on some structure work I've been doing lately

I'll put a few pictures here, but there's lots more in the blog post.
Narrow Gauge Tie sizes
I have found a Narrow Gauge discussion group that has described Narrow Gauge Tie sizes, as the following:
Tie length from 5 feet 11 inches to 7 feet long.
Tie width from 6 to 10 inches.
Tie depth from 6 to 8 inches.
Of course this does not describe ties used in special instances (Turn-outs and other special trackage).
Does your information agree with this?
Prototype "One-Way" frog?
Dear MRHers,
Was following some research trails off a seperate MRH thread, and came accross this pic from the RT&S website
(Prototype Railroad, Track, and Engineering site)
Installing a turnout (prototype @ La Plata MO)
I have to admit, this was 20 minutes of fascinating movement. BNSF track gangs were repositioning a prebuilt turnout from near the Amtrak station further west along the sub. How they did it is interesting, as I've never seen this before. Enjoy the choreography of multiple Cat 33X hydraulic excavators (one with a nifty trick up its sleeves)

Aldon rail equipment
Aldon company is a prototype supplier with an intriguing array of equipment. One innovative item is the Switch Cube® , which I don't think has been modeled. Hobby newbies may not be able to tell how switch points will guide the flanged wheel, apparently this is true of workers too.
