SPSF Meadow Sub: CNW GP15-1 for the UP Transfer

Here are a few photos of a recent project to weather a new Athearn Genesis CNW GP15-1 with DCC/sound for transfer service on the Meadow Sub.

Memories of the Newtown Square Branch in the 1940s and 1950s

Me and my older brother watching railroad operations at Llanerch PA    I grew up right next to the Newtown Square branch in Llanerch. In the days before television, My friends and I were entertained for an hour or so each day watching the shifting operations from a vantage point at the top of a shallow cut at the top of our street. We were up very close to the trains and got to know the crews quite well.

Wycomb Tower

Used JMRI PanelPro to build the tower panel for my "what if" version of the Philadelphia and Delaware County Railroad. A single double-ended staging yard serves as PRR facilities in both Philadelphia and Harrisburg. Numbered turnouts are motored but I still need to install the stationary decoders to make the panel operational.

My first module - Laying the track

Next it is time to lay my first piece of track.

Track on bridge

First I carefully ran a fine bead of Barge Cement along the track ties on the bridge and the underside of the rails, then I had to wait 20 minutes for it to dry.

The Illinois Railway Museum Model Railroad Help It Happen.

The Illinois Railway Museum inherited a Model Railroad a few years back and now needs help getting funds to have a building for it. Funds can be mailed to them or check the links below. There is plenty of info there I hope we can make this happen with all the members help on here.

Open For Business

Got the lot paved, and finally get to set out a few of the vehicles and containers I've been accumulating (mostly by being at a show, and forgetting I've already got a box full of the same sort of thing at home):

OP Session on the BNML - January 16, 2016

Another OP Session was held on the BNML this weekend.

Rico, Ian, and Ian's father 'Zee' all made the trek south in the bitter cold to spend a day working my layout, and a day they did spend!

Shift start was scheduled for 1pm. Rico was running a little late, but called ahead to stake his claim on the BNSF job in Noyes. Ian and Zee arrived on time and after a short tour for Zee they were set loose on CN 532, which was waiting for them in Morris.

SMA22 – Low Cost DCC Controller/Function Generator for Animation, Test Tracks, Absolute Stopping Blocks for Keep-Alive DCC Locos

Model animation—bringing models to life—adds enormously to the interest and enjoyment of any layout or individual model! This entry describes how to build what I call a “DCC Function Generator,” a combination of DCC base station and throttle for about $8 that can be used for mixed DCC animation control, DCC testing, Absolute/Emergency Stop blocking for lift-outs and bridges even for Keep-Alive equipped DCC locos, trolley multi-stop control, and all around DCC havoc!

CY&P RR - Under-Table Archeology

I am making progress in my renewing the layout, mentioned in this post:

First Blue Point (TM) Installation

On my layout there is a switch toward the back of the layout that leads to a couple of public delivery and storage tracks. Access to the switch to throw it by hand is obstructed by a set of coal silos and a lumber shed.
