Modeling general discussion
Solved my storage problem –
I live in a two bedroom townhouse – each bedroom has its own bathroom. My layout is in the spare bedroom and having its own bathroom has been convenient for cleaning stuff, etc.
modifying microtrains passenger car trucks for tight radius
I am trying to remember where I recently saw an article with instructions on how to reconfigure microtrains n scale passenger car trucks so the cars would operate on tight radius track. Does anyone recall seeing the article and where?

Size vs. prototype fidelity
I have noticed an interesting trend, and I'd love to know if anybody has a good explanation for it. There seems to be an inverse relationship between the scale of a model and the level of prototypical accuracy and detail it has. Obviously there are exceptions, but I rarely see an HO scale diesel which is not pretty darn close to perfect, at least in the basic shape of the body (except for the old Athearn wide bodies, but even those are getting rarer). By contrast, it seems quite common to see a very generic looking diesel on a 5" or 7.25"/7.5" railroa

What would you do?? (Peninsula in a smaller room or Modular in a larger room)
I was talking with my basement zoning commissioner the other night and potentially have the go ahead to secure 24"ish of right away around the perimeter of the basement. This is both encouraging and frustrating. I recently completed construction of a layout room that is 18' (the width of the basement) by 19'6". I have a two deck plan that is around the walls with a peninsula up the middle. The challenge here is that there is no more that 12' of straight track and curves take up a lot of room.

The HOBBY called Model Railroading and Rules of Conduct on the MRH Forums and Magazine
After reading the posts of a number of our forum members if appears they have the wrong Idea as to what a hobby is and what Hobby means.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines "Hobby" as a favorite pursuit outside ones main work pursuit.
It doesn't say one word about it has to be Prototypical.
It doesn't say one word about it has to be Free lanced.

Modern Grain Hoppers
I've been doing some figuring and it seems like, eventually, I'll need about 40 modern era covered grain hoppers to run my layout.
Now, I know that there are some really nice (and expensive) RTR HO grain cars out there and I may pick up a couple of them, but I'd like to save as much money as I could.

Train railfan video's at Target
The wife stumbled upon these yesterday and took me out to look. So I bought the set.
It's called Railways and is a 10 DVD/18 hour set at target for 20 bucks. Can't beat that. From what I can tell, one set of 5 DVD's is steam and the other 5 are older diesel and home layouts. Some of it is shot in HD. They also have some older footage as well.

Tom Hokel's Pine Ridge Railroad Video
Seen in this months edition of MRH that a video of Tom Hokel's layout on DVD July 20. Will the video also be available in a download??

grades on bridges
When running over tall steel trestles and other larger bridges, how often were such tracks on the level vs on grade, especially in situations where the railroad was climbing a grade in the surrounding territory.
Are there any operational implications for our models (I am in N Scale) of having the track on grade? I have a spot where I plan to have a 4 foot steel trestle in a layout plan, and really need the 1 inch height gain I could get by keeping the track on its 2% grade over that length.

Switchman and the Polar Express Railroad.
Normally I work as a switchman on the Polar Express railroad. But due to cut backs and layoffs I was the second fireman on the last 2012 Polar Express run to Santa’s workshop. I worked my but off shoveling coal all the way to the North Pole.
