Fining a manufacture's website--search hint

Sometimes, when I'm trying to find a manufacture's website, it's challenging-Google keeps sending you to people who sell the product.  I've found a back door to find some manufacture's websites fairly quickly:  Wikipedia.

Use the name of the manufacturer--Atlas, for example.  Then use the disambiguation page, find the article on the train manufacturer.  There's a link to the company near the bottom.

Missing advertiser? Model Railcast

I've been busy last couple of weeks (second move in 10 months!) but I noticed today that long time MRH advertiser Model Railcast is missing from the listings page. I know for some reason that Ryan has had a hard time getting his podcasts catch on but I was glad to see that the site was still up http://www.modelrailcast.com/ and the latest show was just 2 days ago episode 171 Small Spaces.

Why do people always look slightly unrealistic?

It seems that, in almost every pic I look at, the people just don't quite look right.  Even some of the most spectacular models, when there's no way to tell it IS a model, the people are dead givaways.  Any ideas as to why?

What should be my next tool acquisitions?

I plan on doing some significant scratch-building in the near future, ranging from railroad cars to locomotives and buildings.  Currently, my tools are inadequate, and I’m looking for recommendations for what to acquire, and in what order.  (I’m on a budget, and will put some of these on my Santa list…)

I need some sort of drill press for tiny drill bits—from the ones for truck bolster pins on down to grab irons.  Any recommendations?

Making a female D shaft

Ken Rickman asked how I made the part for the D shaft part for my motorized crane. I'm going to assume that you don't know anything about metal working. I'm not trying to belittle anybody here, I'm only assuming many don't get near this type of work and am sorry if it offends anybody.

My version of a classic kitbash

Way back when, master kitbasher Art Curren took two New River Mine kits and combined them into a chemical plant and wrote an article that I stumbled across. Having a couple kits sitting around, I thought this would be a good way to get back in the swing of things as I ramp up to refilling the basement with a N scale empire.
