Modeling general discussion
Weekly Photo Fun - August 28th to September 3rd, 2015
Great work everyone last week! Time to start of this week's photo thread!
As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Running more than one engine on a circuit
Thinking about adding another engine to my single oval track with sidings. If you want to run more than one I assume that you have to have a mechanism so that only one gets power at a time. Easy if you have 2 concentric track layouts, but what if you want to join the two tracks and make one circuit? Do you put the unused engine behind a DC power blocking rail section?
Thanks,
Mark
Faded/worn numbering experiment
I'd like to weather my model, but would like to achieve this look with the numbers before I do. I've never attempted this before. Sharing any techniques and experiences that have been used by forum members would be appreciated.
A Tale of Two Tichys
Two kit boxes sat, waiting to be opened. Today I opened those boxes and decided to unpack the contents of each and put them together to make more rolling stock. They were slightly different 40' flatcar kits. HO scale and highly detailed, they were both Tichy products. The cars differed in that one included sideboards that were staked and could be dropped into the stake pockets, converting it to a gondola. The other was plain. Oh, and the plain one had 11 pockets per side, while the gondola had 10. I discovered this last detail was no small variation as my projects took shape.

A very nice gift from a good friend of mine!
When I was living in North Georgia I was part of the North County Interchange Operating Group (NCIOG) and had a blast with a great bunch of guys doing model railroading. One of these guys - Paul R.
Painting HO scale figures
A while back I bought some ho scale figures from amazon. 100 figures for 3 bucks. They are actually not too bad as far as details are concerned. In order to paint these little guys, (the figures are not on a sprue) they need to be mounted on a stick or holder of some sort. After a little cleanup and a good washing, I am planning on gluing them on a small dowel in order to hold them while priming and painting them..

Metal thickness real locomotive
What is the metal thickness on the body or cab of a diesel locomotive? I'm curious what that equates to in HO scale? I poked around a bit, but the Inter-Tubes were jammed with some non-relevant info.
Thanks.
Yes, it's real

Santa Maria Valley steam in 1985
Here's some whimsy we enjoyed putting together at the club meet last Saturday. It provided me with an opportunity to run my two "alternative universe" SMVRR steam locomotives and SMVRR caboose in general service during the "present-to-1980s" general time frame we otherwise keep to when running ops.
As always, thanks for looking.
