Weekly Photo Fun - February 12th to February 18th, 2016

Great work everyone last week!  Time to start of this week's photo thread!

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Wall Street Journal - End of the line for model trains?

The Wall Street Journal just ran an article commenting that model trains as a hobby may be dying. What do you think?

Invisible Blogs

Just curious as to why some Blogs don't show up in either the "Blogs" list or "Recent blog posts" but are visible in "Recent posts by type".  Some classic examples are:

Georgetown & Allen Mountain Railroad

Cornhill & Atherton

Scratch Building the Great Western

Dab, dab, dab.....Painting my fascia

This is the first coat of red oxide on my fascia applied by dabbing it on with an old beat up brush.  The dabbing creates a textured surface which will look more realistic.   It is still wet and didn't cover completely so I'll have to add another coat before going on to other colors for my faux rust finish inspired by Tim Warris.  To see my blog on the rusty fascia project click HERE.

Gluing metal to metal

I'm scratchbuilding some pipes using .030" & .040" metal and styrene rod and various brass castings from PSC.

In some cases, I can bore the casting and push the pipe through (like a valve). Other times, I have dimpled the end of the brass casting (an elbow for example) and rounded the end of the wire and then attempted to super glue the two together. Suffice to stay, this does not make a good joint. It either breaks right off or remains connected but "floppy".

So what is the best way to connect the two? Thanks.

A Treat for you rivet counters! (and other Fascia Fans)

I've been working on my fascia on my Richlawn Railroad and have reached a milestone of sorts in that my first section now has both the top and bottom bands and rivets.  You can see more about this process HERE

So, how many rivets are there?
