Lost in Moving

cryingfrown Last year at this time I was packing up all my RR goodies. Tried real hard to keep it logical and put stuff with like items.

BLI quality control. Is it slipping?

Fist off I have about 20 BLI locos and love them all. They are such great pullers and look absolutely great. they are my loco mfg of choice.

I purchased 3 Brand new Paragon 3 N&W Y6B 2-8-8-2 this week. When they arrived I did the standard tests before I put them out on the layout

1st one out of the box had the tender shell smashing the teather. I had to cut wires and add heat shrink to them as the smashed wires were exposed and the tender shell is diecast.

N scale vehicles - self propelled -

I knew of Faller HO scale vehicle that run around the layout - following an embedded wire in the road - however I did not know about N scale vehicles doing the same thing!

Pretty amazing stuff!

ThingMaker: A really cheap 3D printer

OK - 3D printers are getting REALLY cheap. I don't see any performance specs here. They are advertising a "toy" so it isn't important to Mattel.

Anybody know more about these?

MRH babies

I was looking through some of the great layout blogs here on MRH, and it got me to wondering. How many "MRH babies" are there? By that I mean, how many layouts have been "born" here? Where you can see the beginnings of a plan taking shape, then room prep, and finally actual construction. Maybe we could assemble a list with links to all the MRH babies. I'm thinking of actual permanent layouts, not modules or dioramas. Who has gone from plan to plywood and beyond, all documented right here on MRH?

Bead Blasting Brass

There have been a number of posts about cleaning brass for painting.  This caboose looks terrible with bad tarnish and gunk and I got it for a song on eBay.  The area that is clean is the result of 2 minutes of bead blasting.  Note the nice etch it produces to help the paint adhere.  One caution though.  Once complete, you need to seal the surface with something as all that nicely etched brass will start tarnishing right away as there is nothing between it and the air.

Paint booths/ model paints

Today I was supposed to build my paint booth. Instead I spent most of it researching designs. Specifically fans and blowers that will move enough air. I have several fans and inline duct fans that I thought would work. Not after reading all the posts and about the hazards with solvent based paints. I may be ordering a Dayton 1TDR3 blower unless I get a better idea. They are 85 bucks but I can't see an easier way to be safe.

Quality DCC Steam

Bought a Digi Trax Zephyr system yesterday...& I am diggn' it. Now with that said I have an inexpensive HO, Bachmann, 0-6-0 Steam Loco that is DCC no sound. That being said I am open to ideas for another DCC steamer, but I would like something much larger, something that would easily pull numerous cars. I have a very simple 5'x9' oval layout with some turn outs with 22" curves. I have no interest in scenery at this time, I'm just about the Steam engine.

Need Help with set up for LED Light Strips WAS: Ideas on how to secure LED Light Strips

So i'm taking a break from what I have been working on with the Layout and want to do a "test install" of these LED LIght Strips I bought to supplement the lighting of the layout.

Brass screen size?

Here's the situation in a nut shell. I have several diesel units that have plastic screens over the upper radiator area.

Is there one size that fits all? or should they be different sizes?

B23-7 [1 Unit], U-33C [1 Unit], SD40T-2 [3 Units], C44-9W[4 Units].
