Modeling general discussion
Weekly Photo Fun - September 16th to September 22nd, 2016
Great work over the last 2 weeks everyone! Time to start off a fresh week's photo thread!
As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

A room with a view - feeling thankful!
I just got finished doing a customer demo from my office / railroad room and all the sudden was feeling thankful!
This is sort of what my "office" used to look like when I was a "cube dweller" before I transferred to the remote team:
YUCK! I remember those days well and don't miss them at all!
Here's the view from in my office now:
A Working Model Railroad
Here is something a bit different ...

McMyler Coal Dumper
Anybody know if Bearcomarine is still in business? Reason I ask is I've become very interested in building an HO scale model of a McMyler Coal Dumper. I already know of the Garden State Model Railroad clubs working model and the post here on MRH about the "N" scale model that was started but looks like the poster never finished. I've also surfed the net and downloaded every picture I could find.
I looked at the Bearco's site. It's still up but if you click on purchasing plans you get a 404 error.
Weathering with pan pastels
I have been reading about using pan pastels to weather rather than powdered chalks so I am looking for a little guidance. Our local art store has them but they are 7 bucks a can. Seems rather pricey. So what are the bare minimum colors I would need to do some weathering on freight cars? Enough to get me started without breaking the bank.

Getting on top of things
The older I get the more difficult it gets to rummage around under the layout, on the floor, trying to complete wiring, switch machine installation, etc. There are ways of easing this somewhat (e.g. using suitcase connectors for wiring) but I'm wondering how far some of you may have gone to address this. Since I tend to do all the work myself I'd be interested in any tricks/tips/hints you may have on ways to work from the top down instead of bottom up. Suggestions for switch machines, accessing wiring for maintenance, etc.

How to create Rail Passes?
Anyone have a simple business card template that could be adapted to Rail Passes?
We meet railroaders everywhere. I thought it would be nice to update the idea of rail passes and use them as introduction cards.
- Printable on business card size stock
- Has whatever contact info you deem appropriate
- the name of your prototype or fictitious RR
- Perhaps a QR scan block for more data
Example of real pass:

Your Most Interesting Piece Of Railroad Memoribilia
So I recently got a really impressive piece from a family member that used to work for EMD, it is a large wooden E8 a styling model used to try out paint schemes. This one is in the B&O herald minus words and shield. So what else do you have hiding in your collections? Let's see it here.
Auto title loans and model railroading...?
Recently, I've seen a few links (on Facebook) to a website with some model railroad information. The name of the site struck me as being a bit odd, but I thought no more of it until today, when I got a (supposedly) third party request to link to said site from my own model railroad page.
So I did a little research and found that the site belongs to a title loan company. Ummm... What does auto title loans have to do with model railroading? Also of note, all the links point to PDFs.
Texas Northern Moving to Plano
After 15 years at the warehouse in Mesquite, the Texas Northern Model Railroad Club is moving.
You can follow our progress on www.modelrailroadclub.org. You can also see what happened to all our scenery! We need help getting the parts put back together. Come help!
After October 10, you can come by our new place in Colin Creek Mall, just outside JCPenny. Drop us a line first to see when we are open. info@modelrailroad.org
