Modeling general discussion
Repairing gears on truck axles
I'm fixing an O Scale (2-rails) GP9 for a friend. It's a Red Caboose GP9, DC only. It stopped working recently out of the blue. After cleaning wheel contacts and making sure the motor worked well, opening it revealed the core of the issue:

Hawkins Rail
Another of the great model railroad stores passes into history this coming weekend. April 29 will be the final business day for Hawkins Rail in Lafayette, Indiana. The owner, Jack, is closing due to health reasons. I first discovered his shop in the early 1980's when I'd ride my bike from the Purdue campus across the Wabash River into town. Occupying a few different locations over the years, every nook and cranny was always filled with stuff and more stuff, and one could browse the small store for an hour and not see everything.

I have been busy building my layout hoping to start some operations soon. Having built several layout previously and visited and operated on many more I wanted to incorporate as many of the positives I had seen as possible. The big issues for me ,as usual, were time and space. Being older comfort was important.
need some layout tips for a noob
ok so my original layout was going to be a standard oval with some track on the inside to create a small factory with a small rail yard. the left half of the inside of the layout would be a small town the right half would be factory/industrial. below is a pic of how the layout looks now.

Posting videos
Hello,
Could someone point me in the direction to find the post on how to upload and post a video to the forum site?
Thanks.

Protodough
Has anyone tried a moldable thermoplastic product called "Protodough". It's marketed by Jameco Electronics

I'm wondering how easily small detail parts, etc. could be made.

Need help finding manufacturer of large shaft #60-#80 drill bits
Hopefully this gets read, even though there isn't a forum designated for "tools".
Last year during an RPM meet, a few modeler's mentioned a manufacturer of drill bits that have regular sized shafts for really small drill bits. I can't remember the manufacturer and I lost my notes from the meet. So if anyone has any idea who the manufacturer is, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Wishing everyone a happy holiday. Please don't peek during the egg hunt! Here are a couple of layout shots of a Dash-9 I've recently renumbered and weathered. Have a great week!
