Finishing the basement... Drywall or not??

I was reading Jason's construction blog and saw the discussion of drywalling the exterior walls of the future layout room.  I'd like your thoughts on what I was planning to do.

I'm in the process of purchasing a new house with an unfinished basement.  The basement is 19' x 51' and the current plan is to put the railroad all the way around the perimiter so there won't be any hidden track or steep grades, yet still allow for continuous running.

The plan for the room is this:

Where does layout sound fit in?

Hello all,

Been lurking from the beginnings:). When posting I am asked about a 'post catagory'... this is at the nature of my question. I realize that the majority of the Hobby (and by that I always mean the people in it:) don't consider sound, and of those who do, it is promarily on board.

But sound can enhance. It should, as a more serious scale modeling medium, at the least be a part of the discussion, but where does it fit in:)? There is some acceptance for sound in locos- roling stock, but thats not exactly 'layout' sound.

Good News - Bad News

I see ExactRail is going to produce the Trinity 64' reefer in both N and HO scales.  That's good news.   Also, it is going to be manufactured in the US, also very good news.  The bad news is that they are again taking reservations (read pre-orders) but this time, if you can believe it, with no planned delivery date.  I don't know how they expect people to go for that.  They should be asking for expressions of interest and then, when/if they get the numbers that want, ask for pre-orders.  At $22.00 per car and being sight unseen at this point, I think I'll

American flag?

Does anyone know of a website where I can get a free .pdf download of American flags in model railroad scales? I would like to try and start placing American flags on my layout and on a few of my passenger locomotives, but I have been unsucessful at finding them.

Any help would be appretiated.

Recommendations for Free or VERY cheap portable image database software (windows)?

Hi,

I would like to find a free or cheap image cataloging program that allows keyword searching and is very portable. Some minimal image resizing, rotation, and export functionality would be nice but not required.

The Limited Run Hobby Market - The "New World Order"

I have read various blurbs regarding the "changing model train industry".  While I can somewhat agree with the manufacturers intent, I feel they are falling far short when it comes to actually producing the products they want us to pre-order.  I can cite two examples.  I placed two pre-orders for products, one in June of 2009 and one in July of 2009.  Neither of these products are yet available and I have heard nothing that would qualify as an explanation. This is unacceptable and not very good busines

Milwaukee- Athearn's new U50

Hi all,

Did any one who went to Milwaukee take a pic of Athearn's proposed U50 ? Since this is my "just to be started on" next project,it would be great to be able to start something else if they are going to produce one soon.

Thanks, Pete.

8444 down the Deschutes/ 4449 down the Siskiyou

This coming Monday RFD TV's Trains and Locomotives will airing "8444 down the Deschutes/ 4449 down the Siskiyou".  I'm sure some out there would be interested in trying to set the DVR. By the way,  RFD is only on Direct TV as far as I know

Hope someone gets a little TV rail fanning out of it.

Steve
