My Childhood LHS Has New Life

Everyone has those special youngster train memories. For me it was visiting Glen's Train Shop when I was knee high to a grasshopper. The place was owned and operated by Glen Uhl, the grouchiest man you have ever met, but for some reason he wouldn't have been so memorable had he not been that way. I trembled in his presence as he would tell me why I shouldn't buy this or that and why I should buy something else be it freight cars, locomotives, structures, etc.

Book ideas

My lovely and talented wife asked me, just yesterday, if there were any books that I'd like, now that we're approaching the holidays.  I didn't have much to respond with, so I'll put the question out here on this forum.

Any books that you recommend?  My suggestion to start this list is one that I'm re-reading right now:

CSX & BNSF on CN tracks?

I live near the Flint Subdivision CN line from Flint to Port Huron MI. Often I see the ocassional CSX train amongst the hundreds of CN trains that pass through here every year. I understand that CSX has track rights. Today for the first time I saw a train with two BNSF locomotives and a CSX locomotive pulling a long string of auto racks. Can someone explain the odd motive power arrangement?

BTW the paint on the BNSF locos looked real fresh and was georgous especially when contrasted against the dull weathered CSX unit.

Mandatory Paypal?

I just placed a $70 internet order with Tam Valley (Yes, I previously mentioned MRH).

I was given a choice of credit card or Paypal. (the option of useing a check was not mentioned) I selected credit card.  It seems Paypal was running the purchase anyway,  Paypal took over and  told me I had an account with them and I should use it.  I repeated that my choice was credit card. (all of this with mouse clicks - no human contact)

web adress but if you google Vic Smith City Edge you will see an amazing layout that will knock your

socks off. Some of you may have already seen it but for those of you that havent it is a must see.

Vermiculite

Can anyone tell me more about using Vermiculite in scenery.  I have a large bag and a half of the stuff I used for pouring in a wall space for insulation. Later, I was told Vermiculite dust is as bad as asbestos as far as lung damage was concerned and that I should not be using it.

Then,I read some posts mentioning mixing the Vermiculite with plaster for light weight scenery. So, Is it safe to use mixed into the plaster?
