Modeling general discussion

Dean Freytag passed away.

I just heard that Dean Freytag passed away Christmas night.  Another of the "old timers" whose work I've read and felt I was mentored by their work is gone.

Looking forward to.....

I am trying to generate some interest in getting Bachmann, Athearn Horizon, Intermountain, BLW to do RTR smaller Southern Pacific steam locomotives in addition to cab forwards, GS series or MT's.

Friday Photo Fun 12-24

I'm going to continue to begin (or those who wish to jump in before me) the Friday Photo Fun thread weekly again here so we don't have an unmanageable huge thread to load. So, feel free to start this thread weekly on Friday if no one else has jumped in. Just make sure to date it at the top so we know what time frame we're in.

So without further ado, let the photo's begin......

Brooklyn N-Trak Nature Center Show, 12/19/10.

Here is a movie of Brooklyn N-Trak Nature Center Show that was held this past weekend.

If you are in Brooklyn, NY and never heard of the Nature Center, it's located south of Kings Plaza on Avenue U and 33rd street.

An Ah-ha moment for me.....a "duh" for most others.

I just had an "ah-ha" moment while reading my just received copy of Model Railroad Craftman(R) magazine.  To most of those reading this it probably would be a "well, duh" as you probably aready know this.  For those that have been doing what I've been doing I hope that you'll learn from my experience.

Christmas wish lists... and anti-wish lists

So, once again the 25th of December is just around the corner, with it's fun, family, food... and of course the presents.

What's on everyone's model railroading wish list this year?

And just to make it a bit more fun... what's the weirdest/worst thing that a well meaning friend or relative has gotten you as a "model railroading" item?

Friday Photo Fun 12-17

With Joe's blessing confirmed let's begin a weekly regular Friday Photo thread. Post your layout photo's here. Anything but prototypical "real" train photo's. Let's see your diorama's, projects, buildings.....you get the point. Again, browse, critique, point fingers, laugh, whatever rocks your boat. I don't care :)

And please for the love of God, someone else start this thread next week. It makes me nauseous to see my layout photo at the top of each page for people to laugh and point at again.

Looking back and looking forward

To those of you who have been in the hobby for 20 or more years (of and on), what would you say are the developments that have been the most beneficial to the hobby - and why is that? What developments in that same time period have been bad for the hobby? And why are they bad?

Now looking forward - what are the next things you think the hobby needs in order to grow and flourish? Why do you think those things will make a difference?

Any thoughts?

I like the new DO

Just finished skimming the new DO - Dispatchers Office, official publication of the Operations Special Interest Group OPSIG.  The color photos for the on line version are just what it needed.  Good Job Guys

Steve
