Modeling general discussion

Overuse of the word "Rare" on ebay.
The word "Rare" is greatly overused on ebay. In a recent search, there were 460 results of the word RARE! I think sellers use it more as a search tool than actually describing an item because most items listed as rare are actually quite common. The word rare refers to an item that in it's basic form is very uncommon meaning that there are fewer copies of this item. Also, just because something is "rare" doesn't mean "valuable".

Did Athearn make solid gold models?
I realize this has some emotional attachment, but I think someone is overestimating the value just a little.

fingerprints in finish
Finishing up a scratch built caboose- I decided to pre-paint and gloss-finish, before I installed the railings, ladders and brake stand, so I could more easily apply my RR logo decals to the end walls. I should have waited and just been careful reaching inside the end platforms' wire armature, because in the process of drilling the tiny holes for the grab-irons and installing a deck walk, I of course now have an embossed fingerprint on a cupola corner.

Lighting Question
My layout room is quickly coming together, flooring and lighting is all that left. I read somewhere that there is a special type of fluorescent tubes that I should use. Can anyone help me with this before I get them. Thanks....

Question: Peco curved turnout insulated or not?
Question: Peco curved turnout insulated or not?
HO Scale PECO ST-244 curved turnout for a spur on my layout. It is a small radius curved turnout.
Is it an insulated frog or electro frog? do I need to cut gap to prevent short-circuit (DCC) or not? My turnout do not affect power to tracks/siding/spur. So it does not matter what route the switch is thrown, there's power to all tracks all the time.
Thank you
Syl

Retirement question.............
..............for you newly retired out there. How long did it take you to wonder how you ever found the 10 hours a day to devote to your work/vocation/profession 5 days a week?
I took me about 4 weeks.
