Hobby Shops in AZ

Going to Scottsdale, AZ for the weekend for company paid trip.  Will have some free time on Saturday and was thinking of maybe hitting a local hobby shop.  Any suggestions for decent and well stocked store in or around Scottsdale?

thanks

New camcorder

New for me anyway, it's a JVC Evirio GZ-VX715.

Small enough to fit very comfortably on an On30 flatcar, HD video quality and last but not least it has a WiFi connection, I can see the video real time on my tablet and smart phone, take stills and zoom with remote control.

Perfect for riding along with a train or take stills anywhere on the layout, the tablet is the view finder.

Bringing newbies into the hobby

The magazines talk about it and so do we.  How to bring more young people into the hobby.  The answer starts with introducing them to the hobby.  How do we do that?

Well, I have one answer.   We can volunteer to be Merit Badge counselors for Railroading Merit Badge for  our local Boy Scouts.

1. First objection - but I don't want to spend money!  Well guess what - it is FREE to sign up!

scratch building an N Scale Transfer Table

Hi all, I don't know if this has been discussed before by anyone else here, but I have been looking all over the internet for information on scratch building an N scale locomotive/railcar transfer table. Unfortunately there is nothing to be found anywhere online, so I figured maybe someone here might have a suggestion or two in regards to this query. Any and all ideas are much appreciated.

thanks in advance.

N-Scale uncoupling

I've been searching for several years for a good way to uncouple cars on my N-scale layouts. I've tried the Rix tool, jeweler's screwdrivers and bamboo skewers inserted into the pair of couplers but nothing works really well and some cars are so resistant that they actually derail during the process. The problem occurs with all brands of couplers. I don't want to use magnetic uncouplers in the track because I do a lot of switching and the uncouplers would always be in the wrong places.

Any ideas? What works for you?
