Atlas n scale code 55 turnouts
Hi
I am in the early stages of building a layout and am using Atlas track (which may have been a mistake). As my rolling stock runs over a turnout every axle does a little jump. After much trying to see what is going on I have come to the conclusion that the frog isn't deep enough for the wheel flanges, so they ride up. My rolling stock is new, so not pizza cutters. One wagon, in particular, is derailing as it does the little jump, which is very frustrating.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Testing Adhesive for Eating SPS Foam
This morning I've been testing a variety of adhesives on SPS foam to discover if any of these would eat the foam, but also to see if any created a stronger bond compared to the other. I thought this experiment might help others, so here 'tis. FYI - for what I need to achieve on this model: My structure will include ~ 25 brick piers that will be set into the foam. The piers will be attached to the structure and only give the appearance of actually supporting the structure in the ground. I will drill slightly over-sized, shall holes in the foam to accept the piers.
What is your preferred replacement for Squadron Green Putty?
I need to replace my Squadron Green putty. It looks like this is no longer available from Squadron, and I have a choice between grey and white. Had anybody worked with the replacements, and is there a difference between the two?
I also see that Vallejo has a plastic putty, which looks to be easy to work with. If you used Squadron Green in the past, how do you feel this product compares.
Thanks in advance,

Changing scale for upper area of layout?
I am modeling a section of Vermont that was a granite quarry center. The town of Graniteville , where the granite was quarried, was high above the town of Barre where the granite was processed. The granite was brought down to Barre on standard gauge rails. Because it was so steep there were two switchbacks.(supposedly the steepest non-cog railway east of the MS.)

If I only knew at the time!!
While doing research on the P&LE facilities in Pittsburgh, I came across "Station Square", which is one of the facilities were converted to, and I was wondering why that name was familiar somehow. THEN it dawn on me, in the late 1980s, my dad was working for Field Test for Harrison Radiator (now Delphi). During the summer, he would take us on his trips with him so we were not apart as trips sometimes could be weeks, a few times MONTHS at a time. This trip was only for four days, but it was to Pittsburgh (sadly the only time he went there). I now remembe
Acrylic stains and washes for wood
I have used the old alcohol/india ink for staining wood, but the color choices are limited. There are lots of acrylic based washes that work well on plastic and resin, but are there acrylic washes and stains that work well on wood? Water based washes tend to warp wood and also raise grain and "fuzzies". Any ideas?
thanks,
Rob

RDA Delaney Iron Works - Build or dump into the spare parts box?
So my favorite activity is building structures but my oversized door layout is done and dusted with only the endless list of detailing still to do. With the New Year upon us I have the itch to build a structure just for fun. I have had this kit for a number of years and am tempted to build it but have read that it can be a real challenge with a plethora of issues that require sanding, filing, filling, etc. Anyone have any experience building this kit and if so did you get it done or pack it back up and put it on the shelf in frustration?
@Warflight Just checking in
Usually around this time of year, Warflight updates us on the work he does at Christmas for the kids in his neighbourhood. Thinking about this, I realised that he hadn’t posted anything in quite a while. So, I thought I’d post this as a sort of welfare check.
You OK, Warflight? Has anyone heard from him recently?
