Modeling general discussion

An Old Magazine Article.

I found this interesting article in the June 1974 issue of True West magazine. I asked for permission to post this on the model railroad forums and very quickly received that permission from the Executive Editor, Bob Boze Bell. Thanks to him! The author of the article is Zola Farris Ambrose.

Strasburg or Steamtown

I am making tentative plans for a road trip from Florida to Maine this summer, and will likely be able to get to Steamtown OR Strasburg, PA.  Any thoughts on which is a better place to spend the day?  If there are thoughts, what makes one better than the other.  It's very sad for this narrow gauge fan that the East Broad Top isn't running--though at 3 feet, it seems close enough to standard for an old Maine railroad fan to almost call it broad gauge.

Industrial Looking Doodads

Anyone care to share non hobby items you have run across that work in your scale for representing industrial type details? I know LIRR uses various Lego pieces as vents and such on many of his structures.

I wandered down the plumbing and PVC aisles at Lowes yesterday looking for items that were close enough to N scale size for pollution control details for a paper mill: piping, vents, and other strangely shaped pieces that could represent any of the miriade of devices used in these complexes that would help create an industrial jungle type scene.

Looking for Prototype Modeler June/July 1985

Wondering if anyone could help me in locating Prototype Modeler issue June/July 1985. Specifically I am interested in the article on the North Stratford Railroad. I have found the text from the article on Trainlife but for some reason the pictures are not working. If anyone can help me with finding a copy of the magazine or can tell me if I'm not doing something right to get the pictures to work on the Trainlife site I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

Jason

Help me with a title for this video, please...................

After a long period of construction, it was finally time to show my friends the fruits of my labor and run some trains for them.  This was to be a demonstration of how the 23 T GE Boxcab (Lee Town Models, Tsunami DCC) is able to fit on the turntable with a standard 40 box car to be turned or placed on a different track.

What happened was I pushed the wrong button on the controller (recall) and brought up the last engine, and the GE did not respond to my stop command.

Orange Blossom Cannonball 1 to 1 scale

No, it's not a model!  This weekend there is a big festival in Winter Garden, Florida and the Orange Blossom Special has excursion trips from Winter Garden to Ocoee Florida which is about a 25 minute trip.  I grabbed my new camcorder and caught the train as it was leaving Ocoee.  I was hoping they would be using their steam engine but they used the diesel instead.

How to discontinue and find a home for husband's "N" gauge layout

My husband passed away last year and has quite an extensive layout.  Where and how do I start to find a new home for it?  Are there places that would take it as a donation?

HORRIBLE Bachmann Customer Service

Normally I don't ever consider putting a model company on blast, especially online like this, but I had an experience with a Bachmann Repair Center employee that I think needs to be made known.

Not sure if this would go better in the Locos and Rolling stock section. I can move it if need be.

I've got a Bachmann 45 tonner that I have had since December, and have been having serious issues with the performance. I've posted about it in a thread in the Locos and Rolling Stock section.
