Modeling general discussion

A small, modern, short line, model railroad which does it right

Attached is a link to Tom Klimoski's modern,HO, short line layout based on the Georgia Northeastern Railroad.

This simple but nicely, detailed railroad really puts it all together and answers many recent posts about the "distain of modern modeling" and how to "spot a car" or switch industries. Tom captures it all using modern operating techniques easy to understand and to add to any modern layout.

Are all the good layout themes already taken?

I've been struggling with developing a unique and plausible theme for the new layout. Whether based on a prototype or proto-freelanced, I'm running into the "Someone else is already doing or has already done that" wall.

It's getting a bit discouraging. It's like being at a high school dance and finding that all the girls you find attractive are already taken.

2022 NMRA Convention in Birmingham, England

The British Region of the NMRA has announced that Birmingham has won the right to host the 2022 NMRA National (International?) Convention - http://www.nmrabr.org.uk/latest-nmra-news/330-breaking-news-convention-2022-in-uk

According to the linked post, the primary competition was Australasia Region's Gold Coast, so either bid was taking the convention international for the first time in a half-century.

Heralds on ribbed cars

All,

I am looking for some advise on painting some MDC thrall gondolas, particularly a simpler was of getting a Herald over the ribs:

Here is my dilemma I have 30 undecorated MDC high side coal gondolas I'd like to paint into BN which is easy in itself....just black however I'm not thrilled with applying decals over the ribs or masking every car, I am thinking about perhaps a jig that would go over the ribs and so it could be used more than once and saving hours of work.

Suggestions?
Thanks

Hi-railer wheatering

Hi,

Recently I began a project for my father, to get a B'mann NS Hi-railer truck (the one with the crane) layout ready. The truck is track ready out of the box (DCC included) but since we are both absent minded enough to forget the DCC address I rub transferred it's number on the "bed" in 2,5mm numbers. Although it is not what railroads usually do we needed it.

Truck sideframe help

http://www.railpictures.net/photo/578786/

Guys, I'm looking for some truck sideframes to match these for my C30-7 build. I have some that are close, but not close enough without some mods. I've seen pics of the Smokey Valley Dash 7 sideframes, but they look like the ones I  already have. Detail Associates makes a set, but I cant find a good clear picture, and I wanted to make sure they'd match before I ordered them. Guess my question is, who else makes Dash 7 truck sideframes? Thanks a lot, James.

END OF THE SPUR

track plan of layout more to follow,i can either do the build from start to finish or photos of the finished layout
