Modeling general discussion
Let's see your scrapyard or Maint. shop
I havent had a chance to do much with my layout in over 2 years. My work schedule has been all over the board, and I havent had much time to enjoy life. I'm hoping you guys will post some pics of your scrapyard or maint. shops. I'm looking for inspiration for when my schedule eases up and I can get back into the train room
Notes on Logging Railroad Diesels
A few moments ago I put up a thread on revisiting the modern logging layout. This thread will deal entirely with logging railroad diesels, a subject I've always found fascinating. My traditional approach usually involved compiling lists of logging operations that survived to the diesel era, similar to the list I put into the bottom of the other thread.
Revisiting "Modern" Logging Railroads
I found this forum while doing a search earlier this evening that led me to the "Modern Logging Layout" thread from late 2015/early 2016. Rather than add to that thread, I thought I'd start a new one.
One of the debates on the referenced thread was what constituted a "modern" logging railroad operation. My general thoughts would be those that dieselized their operations, though that rule does cut off a few that lasted well into the diesel era but remained steam powered until the end.

Heljan Turntable #804 HO Scale
Has anyone successfully built Heljan's #804 Manual Turntable in HO? The instructions are vague and confusing. One exploded drawing and a photo on the box are all that are available as guides. A friend bought one (spent too much money) and also bought the Walther's powering kit. I have been tasked with building it as he has severe arthritis. Any help, tips, even a hopeful word would be welcome?

UPDATE - Of course it was an April Fools joke!
Posting from Chromebook?
Hi All, Anyone using a Chromebook to post to the discussion threads? I was wondering how they work if adding photos from Google photos to the thread post? I was thinking one might be handy to have around the house.......DaveB

Intermountain GP10s have the shakes
I recently purchased three of Intermountain Railway’s GP10s. They are a beautiful in appearance, but I’m experiencing a noticeable shake at lower speeds. This is my first experience with IM products and am wondering if others have had a similar performance issue.
I’ve been running my units for extended time to break them in but the shake is ever apparent. Seems that something is binding in the mechanism. The drive train looks solid, so my guess is something in the gears is causing the problem.

Top Notch Customer Service from Barrett Hill...
Kudos to Barrett Hill. I ordered from Kevin a few times and has always had fast and friendly service. I'm using the "Touch Toggles" on the facia for local control of my turnouts on the main and signaled sidings. I'm happy to report they have worked out great. So yesterday I ordered another DB4 and a power supply. I ordered the base without any touch toggles because I already have 4 in my inventory. A few hours later my phone rings and low and behold it's Kevin, he called to ask if I had forgotten to add touch toggles to my order.
